My Baby Was Born Extreme Premature And Is Now Struggling To Survive

I am Sushant Pawar and on 24th August 2017, I and my wife, Aparna were blessed with a baby girl. But what was supposed to be a joyous occasion turned out to be our worst nightmare as the baby was born extremely premature.

Doctors were forced to deliver my baby girl in the 30th week of pregnancy as my wife was unable to sustain a life inside her any longer. As soon as my baby was delivered, she had to be rushed to the NICU as her survival looked bleak. Since the day she came into this world, my little angel has fought off multiple infections. She has survived ventilation period and is now showing positive signs of recovery. Born at around 1kg, my baby is slowly gaining weight. The doctors are very positive about her recovery, granted if we are able to keep our little one in the hospital for next 3-4 weeks.

As of yet, I haven't even touched my baby. The only contact that I have with this tiny bundle of joy is through the thick mirror-walls of NICU. Every time my wife goes inside the ICU, she asks the nurse to hold my baby little higher so that I can see her from the outside. I am dying to hold my child once and murmur into her ear that everything is going to be alright. I want to look at her adorable face and tell her how she's been so brave so far, and how she continues to give us hope every day. I want her to believe that no matter what, her father is never letting go her!

But despite everything I want to say, it won't mean a thing if I can't bring my baby home. I am struggling to keep up with the promise of a father. I am striving to save my baby girl due to lack of money. I have a private job and barely earn Rs. 12, 000 per month. Aparna is a housewife.  I am the only earning member of the family. We have already spent whatever little friends we could manage over my baby's treatment. Now even our friends and relatives have stopped taking our calls. The estimated cost of my baby's hospital stay is Rs 7.2 lakhs. We are truly on our own with no one else to go to ensure my little one's well-being.
