Education for girl students in rural areas is a big problem in itself and the lack of proper hygiene and safety becomes a bigger deterrent even for enthusiastic girls who want to study.
Aadarsh Vidyamandir, a small school in Dakeevali village, Wada taluka, Palghar district has 245 girl studets but only 1 common toilet which is also in a very bad condition.
My wife Seema Ramakrishnan and I run the Standard Chartered Mumbai half marathon every year and through their medium, raise awareness of these issues facing our community. We appeal to our well-wishers around the world to come forward and donate for a cause and thereby make a small difference to the lives of people. The Rotary Club of Thane provides us the support to implement the project.
With generous contributions from people like you, we have made the following contributions to society during the last 2 years:
- Helped SOBTI (A NGO working for the welfare of visually impaired children with intellectual & physical disabilities) purchase training equipment’s,
- Funded a project of SAHAYAM (a NGO working for adolescents with emotional needs from under-privileged families)
- Constructed a girl’s toilet at H.V. Patil Vidyalaya in Chinchghar
This year, they plan to raise funds to build 2 toilet blocks at Aadarsh Vidyamandir and add some value to the lives of their girl students and their families.
