Baby born with hole in her heart needs urgent help to survive

"On the way to the hospital, my little baby was struggling to gasp air at one moment, and crying inconsolably at the very next. I held her as close as possible to give her warmth and pacify her, but nothing worked. I feared that she would die in my arms," - Veenu, baby Tanvee's mother.

A fatal heart disease has put this 10-month-old baby's life at risk

Nageshwar and Veenu rejoiced when they were blessed with a child. They cried happy tears when she looked normal at birth as their 4-year-old son was born with missing bones in his body. But their happiness did not last long. A few weeks ago this 10-months old baby had developed fever and cold. They consulted a local doctor who prescribed them medicines but it only worked temporarily. Suddenly she was vigorously shivering with high fever and was facing difficulty in breathing. They immediately rushed her to the hospital.

"My husband and I immediately took her to the hospital, where she was immediately put on ventilator support. After a few tests, they told us that she had a hole in the heart and requires immediate treatment. We were shocked and it took us a while to realize the intensity of our baby's critical condition." - Veenu.

Tanvee will not survive without an urgent surgery

Tanvee is suffering from Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), a condition in which abnormal flow of blood occurs between two of the major blood vessels connected to the heart. This causes increasing strain on the heart and increase in blood pressure in the lungs. This 10-month-old urgently needs PDA ligation, a surgery that closes the opening in the heart to prevent the surplus blood from entering the child's lungs. She needs to stay in the ICU after the surgery for observation. Only two days are left for the surgery that can save Tanvee's life, without which she may not live long.

"The sight of my baby's tiny body in the ICU gives me shivers down my spine, her mouth is always open to gasp air. She often struggles to cry out, and at times, I even watch her whimpering in pain. My daughter drastically lost weight, the average weight of a 10-month-old baby is 8.5 kgs but my baby is only 4.5 kgs. She is too weak to even make a movement. It deeply hurts to see how much her tiny body has to go through at this tender age," - Veenu.

This mechanic is struggling to save his baby girl

Nageswar is a bike mechanic and the sole breadwinner of the family. With his minimal income of Rs 6500 a month, he struggles to run his house. He is unable to afford his daughter's surgery.

"We couldn't afford the treatment for our 4-year-old son till now - we have begged the doctors to keep him alive until we arrange money. Now our daughter is fighting to live. My husband ran to every person he knew and could collect only Rs 50,000. With this little amount, we could only admit her in the ICU. The surgery costs 2.5 lakhs which is beyond our means. Please help us to save our baby," - Veenu.
