Our former colleague Tania Simlai and her mother Shilpi Simlai are in dire need of assistance from our community.
Tania lost her father Late. Sh. Tarun Kumar Simlai around 2 years back due to a heart failure, since then Tania was the sole bread earner. Unfortunately Tania was diagnosed with a rare case of MDR Tuberculosis affecting her spinal cord and rendering her bedridden since March 2018, there has been a very slow progress in the recovery and doctors are estimating another 18 months or longer before she can recover fully. Due to this disease Tania lost her job and there has not been any source of income for the family.
Her mother, Shilpi was operated in 2013 for a tumor on Kindney and Nephrectomy (Removal of one of the kidney) was performed. She has now been diagnosed with Kidney Cancer (Renal Cell Carcinoma) at Stage 4 and doctors have indicated the situation as “Terminal” with an expectancy for another year or so. The cancer has spread across the upper body and now impacting lymph nodes rendering difficulty in eating & breathing.
Due to her fragile immunity and per-existing conditions (Diabetes and Hypertension), Oncologists at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute have informed that any surgery or Chemotherapy not being possible at this stage and only course of treatment is thru medicines. The prescribed medicine (Pazopanib Tablets) is very expensive about Rs.14000 for a strip of 30 tablets and two of such strips will be needed every month for next 9 months averaging the cost for treatment at around Rs.30,000 per month.
Due to their financial conditions affording this treatment is really difficult for them. I may urge our community to come forward and help in any way possible in this difficult time. Any sort of monetary assistance or facilitating with the treatment through charitable institutions can help their family a great deal.
Thank you in advance.
