Feed & home Cherai Tails pups

We have evolved over the last 2 years there was no planning, is no funding.  Helping the lives of dogs that we could have just mushroomed,  entirely because we have been relieving donations of food on our amazon wish list and money from individuals who are and haven’t the time or lifestyles that allow them to do what they wish. YOU are the wind beneath my wings, while I do all the daily stuff, like poo shovelling and cooking I also get to live with a lot of joy and love. You make the donations almost blindly, hence I attempt to spread as much joy as I can through sharing our daily shenanigans on social media.
What we aim to do is empower individual life and life as a whole on beautiful Cherai. We look moms with pups in situ and then take the pups when and only if they are in danger. The pups live with me, we have an evolving family, they are socialised, loved, fed, vaccinated and sterilised. Empowering them and saving unwanted lives from being born.  We feed them all at least one home-cooked meal a day, this not only visibly boost their development but helps when homed as they eat ‘normal’ food. It takes time and costs  2.5 kg of rice & the same in chicken/fish. We also give them dried food. Obviously the little ones are fed more often. There is also the cost of medication for skin infections, prevention of fleas, worming etc.
Homing and gaining funding takes up a lot of my time daily too. We aim to match each dog's needs with those of adopters. So that there is some chance they will have a happy home for life. We also do not give to anyone with cages. Each case is different.  They are individuals.
To be clear we do not ‘rescue’ all dogs who need the help, we can’t I am on my own and we do not have a shelter, we have a home. I simply take in those who are in serious danger when I can possibly empower the rest of their lives. We use government vets who are fantastic. I simply do what I can.

This is how it all began with Janghri...only 2 years ago....and now thanks to you so many have been vaccinated and sterilised and found loving forever homes. This was the fb post i posted 2 years ago before the Cherai Tails page started.

12 December 2017    JANGHRI is going to be part of the solution NOT the problem.

This is Janghri a street dog who lives at the rickshaw stand on Cherai beach. She is looked after by the drivers and by sajeev homestay.cherai on the corner.

2 weeks ago she started to walk badly, her hind legs failing her as though she had had a knock. Sunil one of the rickshaw drivers kindly agreed to drive her with me to the Government Vets Hospital which is about 20 minutes away. A wonderful place with VERY kind souls. Vet consultation costs only Rs.5 but medicines have to be paid for. Jangri had two injections (steroids) one into her spine and we were asked to return in 4 days, when she had another dose.(each dose cost Rs200) Sunil was also given free flea shampoo and worm tablets.

However, Janghri rapidly grew weaker her hind leg was in constant spasm, the pain exhausting her and she appeared as though she had paralysis. Lack of sleep made her disorientated and I feared she had canine distemper which is a serious problem locally, 4 dogs have recently died from the same.

Yesterday, I took her to paravur. They gave Janghri a drip to boost her energy and have housed her overnight as she needed pain relief and I live in a small room, dogs not allowed .

Today Sunil and I will take Janghri to the veterinary training college in Thrissur where she will be x-rayed to determine the damage done to her lower spine. Thankfully Canine distemper has been ruled out.We will then keep her in the rescue centre for treatment, get her vaccinated against rabies and distemper and, when she is strong enough, have her spayed.

For her care so that she can be returned to her life with the kindly gents at the rickshaw stand we need cash. Primarily for the pet care centre upkeep, transport, food and medicine.

I shall be opening a specific fund raising page for the animals of Cherai later today but need some funds urgently as I have run dry and the transport, housing and medicine will cost, The Vet kindly does not charge.

If you FB message me I can provide the bank details of the volunteer vet who will use the funds to buy medicine and to feed house her,(receipts will be sent). Full details of money received and how each donation is spent will be posted on an fb page which I will create after the hospital trip today. Money for travel and Janghri’s immediate care is URGENTLY needed please.Once you message me I shall provide you with a number so that all received funds are fully accounted for and will be itemised on a publicly available account sheet. More later,
THANK YOU.

We now have 4 new wee pups, as its near to Christmas we have called them all names meaning GIFT. And thanks to your gifts we were able to take them in. Darilo is gift in Slovenian. He is the friendliest with humans.

Ebun is gift in Yorubu. He is perfectly marked with socks and the deepest darkest eyes.

Donum is Latin another perfectly marked handsome chap.

Cadeau (french) is the lone lassie and the most cautious and alert....why everyone thinks males make the best guard dogs we'll never know! She is also the darkest which is popular for dogs here..not humans!

They have settled in a day and eat like horses 5 big meals a day! Today was scrambled egg at 6.30, chicken & rice at 10.30!! They've already learnt to charge forth when the service provider is approaching and squeal if attention/food is desired!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSVHc6w2aWE

The day after they came Friday 6th, a Malayalam youtube channel came to do a video on us, it was cool as they were really interested in the dogs. So lets hope....Crazy morning as builders here too but the dogs especially Serb, Panama and Peru loved the attention!

Tomorrow Rossi moves in with her forever family and Wendy may be collected too. I am visiting Santhoshi.
If anyone would like to be on the regular e mailing list please message @cheraitails or bhumiofcherai@gmail.com.

We send out thank you cards periodically so you have given so we can actually do what we do, please do drop us your addresses we don't pass them on!

Our Goan sausage, Winston continues to gain admirers he really does squeal like a piglet, he has a Buddha belly , pink nose and grey green eyes ..plus ears that make him look a pixie according to our official photographer Alexina who has very kindly taken over our  instagram account..so follow us please if you use it!

So this week hopefully Ying and Duster will be sterilized as well as Yang who is homed. The 4 little ones if strong enough will get their 6 week vaccination, I shall worm them again first,

Thank you for all your support which allows us to do what we do!
