    Milaap Children Cancer Fund

    from Bengaluru, Karnataka

The teen is in class 12th, but she doesn’t have a mother or father. Her mother passed away last year, and her father didn’t want a girl, so he left them when she was just 2.5 years old. Since then, it was just her and her mother, but now her mother is gone too. To make things worse, she’s been diagnosed with blood cancer. She can’t go to school anymore and is mostly bedridden due to intense body pain and weakness.

‘It feels like my career and future are slipping away from me’

In July, the young girl started getting recurrent headaches. At first, they were ignored, as she thought they were just from focusing too much on her studies. But when they didn’t go away, a blood test was done, revealing a high WBC count. Further tests confirmed the unthinkable – she had blood cancer. Now, she’s no longer attending school, and the fear for her life is overwhelming.

“My mother died so suddenly last year. It started with a heart problem, and then her kidneys failed. She fought so hard, but in the end, she couldn’t make it. When she passed, I was left all alone, with no one except my aunt and uncle to take me in. I have not gotten over her death until now. I wanted to do so much in her memory, turn independent by becoming a data analyst. But I don’t know if blood cancer will even let me live.”

‘My uncle and aunt have been nothing but kind, how do I burden them with the costs of my treatment?’

The poor child feels immense gratitude towards her uncle and aunt, who took her in after her mother's passing. They've been nothing but kind, providing her with a home and care during the most difficult time of her life. But now, with the mounting costs of her treatment, she’s overwhelmed with guilt, fearing she’s becoming a burden to them.

"My uncle and aunt have shown me nothing but love and kindness. They have treated me like their own child, despite having a son of their own. They were taking care of my expenses and private school fees. How can I ask them to bear the cost of my treatment? It feels like too much to ask, and I don’t want to burden them more than I already have."

You stepped up and helped her at the right time

That is when you came to her aid. Many of you stepped forward to help her in her time of need with your generosity and compassion. With your support, this 16-year-old can now undergo her treatment. Although she has lost her parents and is alone in this battle, but she is grateful for all the support she has received and to all the donors that made this possible.

Unfortunately, she is not an isolated case. There are millions of children like her who are in need of urgent help. They are suffering from deadly diseases that are claiming their lives, and writhing in pain every minute of every day. In many of these cases, treatment is delayed due to the inability to arrange funds on time, which in turn exacerbates their condition and puts them in life-threatening situations. You can help avoid these complications, by donating to the Milaap Kids Cancer Fund giving hope and a fighting chance to those who need it most.
