Lumpy Skin Disease Is Killing Thousands Of Cows, and Orphaning their Calves. Help us save and rehome Orphaned, Unwanted & Abandoned Calves from the brutal streets who have already battled Lumpy or are going to!

While our dear Chief Minister Honorable Yogi Adityanath ji calls for conservation of Gauvansh, the truth on streets is sad and bitter. There are thousands of cows abandoned on streets who are infected with LSD Virus, are hurt or injured.

Lumpy Skin Disease has killed lakhs of gaumatas and gauvansh, (Cows) of India daily. Indian Express Says that in Lumpy skin disease: Nearly 1 lakh cattle have already died, toll has almost doubled in three weeks. Imagine the number of Orphans left behind by this terrible disease.

The data available with the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying shows that the lumpy skin disease has spread across 251 districts in 15 states and affected over 20 lakh animals till September 23.

WHAT IS LUMPY SKIN DISEASE?

Source: India Today. Lumpy Skin Disease is a viral outbreak that targets cattle and is transmitted by blood-feeding insects like mosquitoes, flies, lice and wasps by direct contact and also through contaminated food and water. The disease is characterized by the development of nodules in the skin, which may cover the whole of the animal's body, and lesions are often found in the mouth and upper respiratory tract.

The disease is caused by a virus in the family Poxviridae, genus Capripoxvirus which affects cattle. "Agro-climates, communal grazing, biting-fly, and introduction of new animals are associated with the occurrence of lumpy skin disease,"

Sophie Memorial Animal Relief Trust (SMART Sanctuary) is an effort towards making the life of the voiceless happier, healthier & safer by rescuing & rehabilitating old, terminal, disabled, abused and abandoned animals.

The Trust is a Forever Tribute to Sophie, the Indian Pariah Dog Daughter of Kaveri & Yashraj Bhardwaj who passed away in 2017 at the age of 12 years.

#LumpySkinDisease in Cows is Contagious & needs isolation, and urgent treatment of the sick animal. However, despite every measure by the government many cows have lost their lives, many little Calves have been orphaned & many are being Abandoned on roads right now!

Seeing the plight of poor calves suffering with homelessness in India, Sophie Memorial Animal Relief Trust wants to make first private dedicated Abandoned & Orphaned #CalfNursery.

SMART Cow Sanctuary Will nurture these beautiful beings with veterinary support from most compassionate Canine & Feline Critical CARE UNIT - CFcu VET hospital & management by Sophie Memorial Animal Relief Trust.

We have rented land which can accommodate 150 Calves at any given point of time. We want to retrofit it with basic necessities, fodder, medicines, supplements, electricity, water etc. so that it can be operational soon.

We plan to rescue abandoned Calves, bring them to SMART Cow Sanctuary, treat them with utmost compassion, give them much needed milk for their healthy growth, topmost care & best Veterinary services.
