On 11th October 2020, a transwoman from Hyderabad named Hamsa, was attacked and allegedly set on fire by members of a local hijra mafia gang. Two days later, Hamsa lost her life to burn injuries. She was the sole source of livelihood for her family. Her mother, Ms. Kanaka Durga Chodapaneedi, is trying to get justice for her daughter, however, the gang members continue to harass her. They are intimidating and manipulating the witnesses. Madhapur Police and the Osmania General Hospital are yet to share the death summary with Ms. Kanaka Durga Chodapaneedi, due to which she is unable to get her deceased child, Hamsa's death certificate. Without it, she is unable to access the meagre savings in Hamsa's bank account. Hamsa's mother wants to pursue this case and wants the attackers to be punished so that in future, life of no innocent is lost. This case might continue for a year or much longer.
