Mahila Kattay /Auraton ke Majlis
is an engagement with women from rural and urban Karnataka. These women are a part of various people’s organisations, and they come from marginalised communities in the state.They are proactive and determined to bring about change and are committed to creating newer realities for the society.
While advocating for the rights of the marginalised, activist women also often have to negotiate within their household, organisation and community at an individual level.In the spirit of dedication towards a just society, she often cannot focus on her ‘self’ in her personal growth. We have a strong belief that unless women are able to establish deep connections to their selves and their surroundings, society will not move towards being just and equitable.
This initiative is anchored by Human and Institutional Development Forum, Bangalore (www.hidforum.org). We had the opportunity to initiate conversations and share the intention behind the idea of the Kattay-Majlis with 30 remarkable women from across Karnataka in June and August 2019. The idea resonated with the group and was vociferously endorsed. Through the course of the meetings, the need of Kattay-Majlis was further established, and the women expressed their keenness to strengthen Mahila Kattay/Auraton ke Majlis for themselves.
It is our aspiration that we journey as co-travellers with this group and support them in being more effective change agents of their society.
Mission of the initiative
We have budgeted for a year-long engagement with 30 women from across rural and semi urban areas in Karnataka, and we plan to have a 3-day Kattay/Majlis every quarter. The projected cost of 4 modules for every participant is ₹28,000.While the women will bear the cost of their travel, we are trying to raise support to meet the costs of conducting the programme.
We are reaching out to you to support us in our endeavour of journeying with these courageous women. You can choose to support one woman for the whole programme of 4 modules (Rs. 28,000) or multiples of 7000 (Rs 7000 per module). By supporting the Kattay/Majlis, you will be taking part in supporting women’s dreams.
