As a young practicing lawyer in Lucknow, Himanshu’s life changed forever when he sustained a serious spinal injury in a horrific car crash in November 2019.
He was just 33 years old at this time, when the foremost spinal surgeon in the city declared his prognosis as Paraplegia (a type of paralysis that leads to impairment in motor or sensory function of the lower extremities). Himanshu had lost all sensation and movement in his body waist down, in addition to loss of bowel and bladder control.
Upon undergoing a spinal decompression and stabilisation surgery in Lucknow, he was soon rushed to the renowned Indian Spinal Injuries Center in New Delhi where he was advised to undergo their 10 week physiotherapy and rehabilitation program designed for similar patients. However, at the end of this program he was discharged with no change in diagnosis but advice to continue physiotherapy and bladder training.
This treatment has already put the family in a debt of INR 8 Lakh with an ongoing medical expense of approximately INR 50,000 per month. This has put immense pressure on his retired parents and has forced them to rely on financial assistance from the extended family.
Additionally, Himanshu’s physiotherapy had to be put on hold due to lack of funds, resulting in the stiffening of his leg muscles, reduced blood circulation and other complications.
In order to return to any sense of normalcy and independence in his life, Himanshu needs as much help as possible from the larger community.
Through this fundraiser, we seek to cover the most basic and essential expenses required for improving his condition and supporting him in becoming physically, emotionally and financially independent. In addition, this will support him in exploring new (as well as alternative) treatment options to hopefully restore his motor and sensory functioning to any extent possible.
We sincerely hope you will come forward to contribute in helping rebuild this young life, in any capacity. No amount is too small.
All your help will be received with utmost gratitude.
Thank you! 🙏🏽
