Story

I’m a hardworking final year student from Delhi Technological University working on an artificial intelligence algorithm and creating a platform which can recognise and analyse the mental health of people.
Also I am preparing for admission in combined MBA+PhD programme in IIM. I am a proud son of primary school teacher who wants to make difference in society.

Recently I was selected among 300 delegates from 90+ countries for the very reputed HPAIR (The Harvard Project for Asian & International Relations) - Harvard College Conference which is at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA from 15 February,2019 to 18 February,2019.

Being an active member of Art of Living I am inspired to work for mental stability of people. Currently my area of concern is the suicide attempts, especially among the youth. The present set-up working for such issues is more about responding to mental health crises, rather than preventing such emergencies in the first place.

After witnessing more than 5 cases of suicide and self harm in the past year I’ve doubled my efforts to address mental health in campus. The contribution I make each day helps me sleep better at night!

I want to bridge the gap between technology ,mental and emotional well being of students.
I am devising an artificial intelligence algorithm and creating a platform which can recognise and analyse the mental health of people.
This idea got appreciated and recognised at HPAIR , Harvard College Conference and with their collaboration, I will be able to complete it.
With my continuous effort, I would take this project forward on a bigger scale which would aide my research on mental health so initiatives for mental betterment can thus be qualitatively evaluated.
But I need resources and mentors who could guide me. This was what inspired me to join HPAIR so that I could get a chance to work with best minds and create a positive impact in society. I will be in a position to bring some influential change with the guidance of experienced faculty members of Harvard University and the various panel members like Warren Goldstein ,Executive Director, Center for Critical Research on Religion and Jack Cable , Time’s 25 Most Influential Teens for 2018. White Hat Hacker.

I am bearing all expenses by my own, but due to financial constraints, it will be highly difficult for me to represent India and mental health issues at HPAIR. This is my first crowdfunding campaign and I seek your help in making my efforts reap fruits.
The details of the estimated expense are :
Registration fee : 412.5$ (30,525 INR)
Accommodation charges (Cheapest fare): 67$ (4,958 INR)
Visa fee : 160$ (11,840 INR)
Flight (Cheapest fare) : 65,850 INR
Total : 1,13,173 INR

I'd highly appreciate any contribution made for this, be it very small, Also, I'd love to personally write a handwritten thank you letter for donations if you provide your postal address via email (dakshhimanshu96@gmail.com)/ WhatsApp (+91 8802537290) or comment.

Everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide. Choices we make today can help prevent a suicide tomorrow.

Past work

My experience of volunteering for art of living in college has helped me gain insight on the problems that students usually face and it has also provided a great way to manage stress for busy students (myself included). I draw upon these learnings for psychological categorisation of students and focusing on certain rampant/significant problems.

I’ve been taking steps to address mental health issues in campus because stress , depression , self harming behaviour is on rise in campus .

Some of the steps taken by me are
  • I formed a happiness society under Dr M M Tripathi and in collaboration with art of living foundation have conducted 10+ workshops since 2016 helping 400+ students to stay calm, focused and happy through a tried and tested combination of yoga, powerful breathing exercises, meditation and practical wisdom.
  • Regular weekly meditation sessions are conducted for students every week to bring back a clear and positive state of mind and build resilience.
  • Also to create impact on a large scale my team has organised a youth oriented conference in the month of March/April with delegates from different academic background , college student body , 300+ students , 50+ professors and global spiritual icon Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with aim to connect, collaborate and co-create a curriculum which ensures a better quality of life in campus among youth .
  • In addition to this conference we will launch an online platform where people can connect with a dedicated community of like-minded, positive and compassionate people who will be there to support and help in growth consisting of alumni and students where one can post anonymously to seek help.

The 2019 HPAIR Harvard College Conference will offer a platform to cooperatively confront these emerging challenges in Asia through dialogue and exchange that transcend geographical and cultural borders.
