When Nidhin was born, Nagamanika was waiting for the doctor to bring the baby to her, so she can hold him for the first time. Instead, he was taken to the NICU. After 3 days, he went home with his parents, only to be back in the hospital within a span of two weeks. Nidhin had neonatal jaundice, and while the parents waited for him to recover, his condition only got worse. He may not survive for long with 100% liver damage. The only way out is a liver transplant.

His liver has been failing since birth

Medicines never helped Nidhin. If anything, he kept growing yellow, almost like they had bathed him in turmeric. At 3 months, his stomach began bloating. Trusting their gut, the parents too him to Hyderabad for a second opinion where he was diagnosed with chronic liver disease.

“Nidhin has been in and out of the hospital, sometimes for weeks at a time. He does not feed anymore. All he does is cry. His first words sounded of pain. We just waited for treatment to help him recover. It never did.”- Nagamanika

'If I feed him, he vomits blood'

Nagamanika’s day goes by as she tries to console her wailing son. He has not even started teething and she is afraid he never will. Yet, this baby boy vomits and poops blood from time to time. The swelling in his stomach also tends to cause hernia. Every week, fluid needs to be drained to alleviate his pain.

"We have tried every other treatment option. Nothing has worked. There is only one way to save him now, and that is a liver transplant. I will donate, I will even give my life if there is a chance it could him." - Nagamanika

There is no money left for the transplant

Bala Babu works as an assistant in a private company making Rs 15000 per month which was enough for him to look after his family, before his son's diagnosis. He has spent Rs 6 lakhs so far on Nidhin's treatment. There is not even a rupee left now for this transplant.

"For 9 months, we have been hoping he will get better. We have not slept in days, because he screams his heart out. Sometimes he runs out of breath, crying, and passes out. That is the only way he sleeps. I cannot even carry him without hurting him. This should not be his life. This should also not be the end of his life." - Bala Babu
