Story

What is Ekam?

A not for profit organisation founded by Dr Sailakshmi B – Paediatrician as a community paediatric project in 2007. We admit poor children in private hospitals with whom we have networked and reimburse the subsidies given by them. We bring in support for the hospitalization (secondary & tertiary care) of the children admitted in private hospitals and renting ventilators , lab support & medicines for the  children of  Government Hospitals. Started in Tamil Nadu, expanded operations to Maharashtra in 2012 and
Chhattisgarh in 2014.

What is Ekam's vision?

To enhance the delivery of the public healthcare system for the well being of children and mothers and
thereby reduce infant, childhood, adolescent and maternal mortality rates. Our aim is to complement the government health system and not replace it.Our core values are oneness, love and truth.

How does our donation make an impact?

The cold, harsh reality is that the availability of money often dictates the decision of life or death for dying babies and children from low-income families.  Ekam strives to provide continuous financial support to such babies and children.  Requests for help are received through the helpline.

Ekam has facilitated support for 6500 poor and sick children in hospitalization expenses (1533 children). Through networking with 51 hospitals and 150 pediatricians, donors, and access to Government funds, the families receive invaluable assistance such as funds/concessions for treatments, drugs, hospitalization expenses, surgery lab support, equipment support. A panel of International technical and medical experts provide timely recommendations to help save the child.

Paripoorna Bala Suraksha’ (PBS) and Ekam Health Cover for children is a health assurance model to provide access to sustainable health care to poor and underprivileged children in Tamilnadu.

What are the achievements?

  • 80,000 children accessed earmarked funds of the public health care system through building community awareness of Government schemes.
350,000 children have been screened for illnesses through pediatric camps held at 1340 Integrated Child Development Scheme centres.

How will donations through Bengaluru Marathon make an impact?

Your donation, of any amount, will translate into a miracle for a needy child. Your contribution would go towards our operations cost which would help in scaling in our impact. You would receive an update on how the funds were utilized. We really appreciate your interest in supporting us!
