5-year old kid Ronald needs a bone marrow transplant to save his life. He was born on Feb-14th 2011 to Rajitha and Ramesh. They are from a Taluk in Gulbarga district of Karnataka. Mr.Ramesh is a constable at a local police station in Gulbarga and earns around Rs. 14,000 per month. Rajitha was a staff nurse but gave it up after her marriage to look after her children. Ronald also has a younger brother named Tejas.
In 2013 Ronald just started to go to a School, when he started to complain about continuous pain in his joints and the neck area. What started as joint pains and swellings turned out to be much more than that for Ronald. He also had severe cycles of high temperature that would not subside with medicines. Soon, Rajitha started to notice swellings around the joints too.
Suspecting a fracture, they took him to a local doctor in Gulbarga. Indeed, it was a fracture but the doctor also hinted signs of Arthritis. Even after this Ronald still complained of severe pains in his joints, that’s when the local doctor asked them to visit a good Rheumatologist.
So, with the very little information they had both Rajitha and Ronald took him to Krishna hospital in Hyderabad known for its pediatric services. Here he was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis and began treatment. Meanwhile he was also tested for any signs of malignancy and at the end of 2015, Ronald was tested positive for Leukemia.
They immediately came down to Kidwai in Bangalore and started cycles of chemotherapy, but Ronald was just getting weaker by day. The doctors at Kidwai advised them to go for a BMT as a permanent cure for Ronald. After 1.5-year treatment at Kidwai and the lack of good facilities for a BMT at Kidwai, Ronald was brought to Narayana Hrudayalaya on October 8th. He was immediately admitted for a BMT and is now currently undergoing chemo treatment.
In order to start his BMT he needs to find the right match as his donor but his younger brother seemed a no good match for him. So, Rajitha and Ramesh have volunteered and have been tested to see if either one of them is an identical match and are awaiting the results.
