I am fundraising to help Fund A Liver Transplant Operation

Dear all,
Those of you who know me personally may know that my father hasn't been well for the last one year.
The first signs of sickness began in March 2015, he started loosing weight and feeling weak. We started taking him to the doctors, a long series of consultations & tests began. Because I live and work in Mumbai, it was getting difficult for me to do the rounds with them in Kolkata. So I asked my parents to shift base to Mumbai. From May this year his condition started deteriorating rapidly. He has been hospitalised for long stretches for about 6 times in the last 9 months, currently he is in Mumbai's Global Hospitals.

In the last one year he has become half of what he used to be and physically very weak. His disease is Auto Immune Hepatitis where his body's immune system is attacking his liver as a foreign body. This is aggravated by Hepatitis E which is a water borne virus, as if this is not enough he is also suffering from chronic liver disease which causes anorexia and fluid accumulation in stomach and feet. So the fluid has to be pumped out of his body artificially.

Looking at his photos you may think that he is old, but he is just 59. In one year this horrible disease has totally incapacitated my Baba. Finally after exhausting all other medical means, the doctors have suggested liver transplantation. My mother who is 50, is going to be the donor. I am their only child, me and my husband have been pushing our limits to care for my father. But this liver transplantation and the post care is such an expensive procedure that it has gone beyond our means.

I keep seeing crowd sourcing initiatives and how it completely changes people's lives for the better. So I thought of reaching out to my friends and well wishers for your help. Please help us raise the funds for my father's operation and help save him.
The operation is scheduled for end of December 2015.

I would be ever grateful for every little help that comes our way.

Dear Supporters,

A few months after Jayanta’s transplant, he acquired jaundice. His bile ducts were infected and he had to undergo Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). This procedure involves placing a stent in the clogged/infected bile duct to allow drainage. Jayanta has to regularly visit the hospital to replace this stent. So far, he has had three stent replacements.

It will take another 4-5 sittings to resolve this problem, according to his doctors. Meanwhile, he has been advised to avoid exposures that might lead to infections. Besides this, Jayanta has gained weight and is walking on his own again. He is extremely happy to be able to play with his little granddaughter, Sreeja.

Jayanta is also scheduled to visit his home in Kolkata in December. He is elated at the idea of going back home for a while, before returning to Mumbai for further treatment. Jaita, his daughter, says he misses Kolkata more than anything else. “We are hoping visiting the city give him some much needed cheer,” she adds.

She has shared the following recent pictures of Jayanta with his family.

We will keep you updated on Jayanta’s progress. Thank you for your support.
