Why am I fundraising?

Hi everyone! My name is Rupal and I am raising funds for Priyanka who works as a domestic help at my home. 

A few days ago she stopped coming to work and I soon found out that she was badly beaten up by her husband. I also learnt that she is being beaten up for over a decade but the only reason she hasn't left him is for the sake of continuing her son's education. When she finally met me, she had a swollen upper lip, a scar across her cheek and bite marks on her shoulder and back. 

5 years ago, a lawyer helped her file a case in court and issue an interim protection order....But because her husband is an influential man, he has scared away lawyer after lawyer and continues to physically and mentally abuse her.

After a lot of searching and with the help of several organisations, I managed to find a strong, honest lawyer to take up Priyanka's case and help her escape a life of domestic violence. 

I have committed my time and resources to help Priyanka fight domestc violence because we should care about the people who work in our homes day in and day out. How can we possibly ignore such violence? 

I have been very fortunate to witness happy marriages in my family and to imagine someone like Priyanka in an unhappy and abusive relationship is too hard to digest. So please join me in helping Priyanka get justice. 

What do I plan to do with the funds?

The funds are mainly meant for helping Priyanka retain a lawyer and take care of other litigation related expenses and documentation. 

Her case has been lying dormant because she hasn't been able to find and afford good lawyers. She has lost all of her jewellery borrowing from local moneylenders and paying for such litigation for the past 5 years. But now that we have found her an excellent lawyer with a strong reputation and integrity, your contribution could support her in her fight for justice.
