    Seema Bhasin

    from New Delhi, Delhi

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ishank Bhasin and am raising funds for my mother Seema Bhasin who is battling for her life in ICU for the past 60 days.

My mother is a recurrent case of high-grade pleomorphic sarcoma. She was first diagnosed with this aggressive tumor in Aug 2014 and was successfully operated for the tumor along with aorta grafting by Dr Ramakant Deshpande, Padma Shri winner, at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. Being residents of the national capital, we still chose to travel to Mumbai for my mother’s surgery as not many doctors in Delhi were willing to perform the high-risk surgery. (you can read more about my mother’s first fight against cancer here https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-greatest-gift-youve-ever-given-yourself/answer/Ishank-30 )

As we were living our life happily, cancer decided to give us a surprise visit after 7 years. Having defeated cancer once in our life, my mother and our family were reasonably confident that we would make it 2-0 in our fight against cancer. Unfortunately, someone up above had other plans.

My mother was operated for her tumor, along with left subclavian artery replacement, on 31st May at Asian Cancer Institute, Cumbala Hills Hospital by Dr Ramakant Deshpande and his esteemed team of doctors. While the surgery was successful, my mother suffered left side brain stroke on the next day of surgery which paralyzed the right side of her body and affected her speech and cognitive behaviour.

If cancer and stroke were not enough, my mother suffered complete left lung collapse on June 15th (15 days post her cancer surgery). She underwent lung surgery on June 18th to remove hematoma that was supposed to help her left lung expand properly. Unfortunately, the human body can only take as much pain and now her body is refusing to bear the brunt of breathing and she is on ventilator support in the ICU for the last 50+ days.

While doctors are confident that my mother will be able to wean off the ventilator one day (as she is hemodynamically stable and her lung position looks much better), none of us knows when that day would come. As a son, I want to support my mother to the best of my abilities and give her as much time as she needs for her recovery. While emotionally I would support her till the end of time, supporting her treatment financially is becoming incredibly stressful for me and my family. So far, we have spent 55 lacs + on my mother’s treatment (attaching the current provisional bill and condition summary here for your reference).

We need another 50 lacs to continue supporting her treatment in ICU and help her with neurorehabilitation (Rs.15-20 lacs for 4-6 weeks of ICU care + Rs. 20-25 lacs for 8 weeks inpatient neurorehabilitation program at Kokilaben hospital + another Rs. 10 lacs for neurorehabilitation in outpatient settings).

As the required amount is large, I request you to kindly contribute towards the treatment and help us during this time of need. If you cannot donate, please share this story with your friends and family and say a prayer in my mother's name. Each donation matters to us. Each story share matters to us. Each prayer matters to us.

We are grateful for your help and wishes in this time of need. Thank you for reading our story.
