    This fundraiser will benefit

    Nandini

    from Mysore, Karnataka

“She visited the temple every evening. That night, on May 13, a person on a bike hit her as she was coming back. She was lying on the road bleeding with her broken umbrella and lunch box for half an hour before someone took her to the hospital.” – Kiran, Nandini's brother.

Nandini's family only knows that she was hit by someone on an Activa. The driver hastily fled the scene, even running her over again in the process. She was hit from the back and fell on her head. She has since had five surgeries and has still not regained consciousness. Her family has kept borrowing on interest until now. They now need help continuing her treatment.

Though still not fully conscious, Nandini has just started opening her eyes

Nandini was the one everyone in her family relied on

“Till now, we never thought about money. We had enough for a roof over our heads, a full meal and a peaceful sleep at night. Akka was the one who made sure none of us ever needed to worry about anything. We love her so much, we can't think of anything beyond getting her better. We keep asking for help and have somehow managed to keep treatment going.” – Kiran

Nandini's parents run a poori stand in Mysore and her brother Kiran takes care of a tea stall. Together they have spent over Rs 14 lakhs to make sure Nandini stays alive and gets all the surgery she needs. Nandini's parents never imagined that their strong, determined daughter would be lying helpless and unconscious for months.

Nandini's coma has left the family shocked

In her family, Nandini was the one who wanted to study. While her brothers and sister dropped out after class 10, she worked part-time and earned a degree in Law. She had just become junior assistant to an advocate. Everyone thought things would get better because she didn't need odd jobs anymore.

“Every family has that one person who is very central to their lives. In our house, it is my sister. She is the one we all go to with our problems. She brings us together. She takes care of 6 rescued dogs. Because the injury is in her head, doctor tells us the recovery will be very slow. We're so scared that we won't be able to continue treatment.” – Kiran

How you can help

Nandini's needs breathing support and is in a coma. Her condition is improving and she sometimes tries to open her eyes or move her hands. Doctors also tell the family that she is getting better. She needs just a few more weeks at the hospital. Her family is desperately waiting for her to wake up – they only need help to make sure she gets treatment for a few more weeks.

Contribute and save Nandini's life.
