The Water Project

November 2017 story update.

Dear Donors,

On the outset, thank you all for the monetary support and well wishers.

Every now and then I read comments by some of the donors about
"Hope money is going to good cause" or "... going to right people".
"Has work been done?" etc, so I request everyone to look right ^ above this comment where you can view the tab "Updates". This will take you to the various updates for this project. As you scroll down search for 'Read more' to view previous updates other than the latest along with a timeline of those updates.

Thank you all so much for the support towards The Water Project! All contributions that have been collected will go towards whatever water solutions we can possibly offer the shelter which would include, digging of borewells, rain water harvest, storage facilities and logistical solutions. Do follow my updates for a monthly progress chart and timeline.

Thank you all so much for the support towards the Water Project! The more we understand the needs of this Water project from both HOH and experts in this field, we believe that there is a possibility that most, if not all the funds collected till date would be required to facilitate a replenishing water supply solution and help eradicate the water woes that the mission has been facing for the past 4 years.

Thank you for your continued support.

Recent Press coverage received for the Water Project:

The Water Project: Phase 1
The mission has a property located near a lake, and had already commenced digging a borewell but unfortunately had to stop at a depth of 400 feet because of lack of funds. This re-digging of the borewell should be able to sustain their desire of accommodating 1000 people in the near future.

His immediate need of the hour is to restart the digging of the borewell that would help the Homeless Shelter with water.

I'm looking at raising 3 lakhs for this project

Let's help him so that he may continue helping others!

Update 12 - TWP

Dear Donors, thank you for your patience and support. Although this update was overdue, I wanted to share one only when there was enough content to document the progress in our project.

Site 1 - Further to digging the borewell and striking water, the work on this OHT had been completed somewhere in mid December. We then started plastering the entire structure to give it a more complete and finishing touch. A room was constructed below the OHT on request by HOH (to be utilised by them as seen fit). We even undertook cleaning up the site of large stones and rocks that were dumped there earlier (still a WIP) by clearing it to one side of the plot with the help of a JCB. Whilst other permissions and work was going on we had simultaneously initiated multiple tasks at the other sites (Site 2) & (Site 3). Finally we constructed a compound wall with a gate for security reasons as well as to give this stage of the project a sense of closure.

Attached are some of the progressive images during the work and also the completed structure.

Mid Nov to Dec, work in progress before completion in Jan.

Site 2 :

Rain Water Harvest & Recharge Pit with Underground sump for Storage.

With having the material procured, we began our second stage for Rain Water Harvest at the gents ward.

Early Dec to Dec End

In accordance to our plan we built a sump with a capacity of approximately 80000 litres at the gent's ward to capture and store the maximum flow of water during the rains. We've constructed a recharge process to help clean the water that is captured. We are certain that this would bring them much more respite in the water problem they faced all these years.

Completed structure of Recharge pit and Sump.

The Rain Water Harvest roofing job is a work in progress (WIP) which has already commenced and completed updates should be in by mid Feb.

Lastly here are a couple of links to videos to showcase the success of TWP

As of now, I can state that The Water Project was a success and we all along with Milaap's help have collectively helped Home of Hope's inmates with their water issue (hopefully for some years from now)

(e & o.e.)

Thank you all and God bless.

Update 11 - TWP

Dear Donors,

The work on the Over-Head Tank has been progressing and is nearing completion. We've had lots of delays with the setting and drying of cement because of the massive rains, but were able to finally get them done.

3rd week of October, 2017

OHT nearing completion. Photo taken on November 4th, 2017

Once the OHT is complete, the electricity board can be connected after inspection by officials. We'll begin work on rain water harvest recharge pit shortly at this same site to enable recharge of this borewell. Subsequently we need to check if piping and casing is required for the borewell after using a camera to probe and check the where the well was dug. If none of those are required, we would install a motor and should have this part of the project completed entirely by the 10th of November. (assuming there are no other delays).

POA next stage:
We've also procured material for Rain Water Harvest for the three different spaces that belong to the HOH shelter and work will commence by November 7th at these existing homes. First at the gents ward and later at women's & children's section. Our current plan is to build a sump at the men's ward which has the maximum flow of water during rains.

If we're blessed with rains as we had this year, this should bring them some respite in their water bills.

Thank you all and God bless.

Update 10 - TWP

Dear Donors,

Post my 9th update on 13th September, we commenced work to build an overhead tank (OT) for the collection of water from the completed borewell.

I'm attaching photos with dates to have a progressive understanding on the timeline of work. We experienced delays due to indecisiveness from various quarters but they eventually smoothened out and work moved ahead steadily. The heavy rain showers we all have experienced weren't helping either.

The good news is that we got the KEB connection along with all clearances last week and need this OT up to install the KEB connection / switch box.

Photos & their timeline
September 16th purchase and delivery of material at site.

September 17 - 28td, digging for pillar foundation. There were a few delays caused by the rainstorms and other decisive factors but the pits were eventually dug according to specific requirements of placement of the pillars.

Even hired Sheru the watch dog to guard our material  :)

October 5th - Raising of the pillars for an overhead tank.

October 12th - pillars are almost completed.

Construction of the body of the OT will commence shortly and updates will follow suit.
