Kerala is a predominantly Malayalam speaking state. Kasaragod, the northern-most district in Kerala which shares a border with the neighbouring state of Karnataka has a small native Kannada speaking community. In order to ensure that this Kannada speaking community sustains and also to provides free education to underprivileged children in his village, my grandfather Sri Kudlu Ishwara Shanbhogue built a small school naming it after the village diety : Sri Gopalakrishna High School (SGKHS).
SGKHS is one of the very few Kannada medium schools in Kasaragod (Kerala) that has been providing education to children since decades helping thousands of students shape their career, free of cost. However, due to a constant growing pressure from English medium schools, lack of modern amenities and infrastructure, the strength of this school has been deteriorating over a period of time posing a threat to its survival. Being the only grandson, my sole intention through this funding campaign is to keep my grandfather's dream alive - to empower this ailing school with modern amenities and infrastructure (+2 section, a well equipped library, sports equipment and training facility, computer lab, facility for art/music/dance/theatre and Yakshagana workshops, guest lectures, inspirational talks by eminent personalities & achievers etc.) thereby making it at par with any other school in this region, if not better. This school is also important to keep the Kannada speaking community alive in Kasaragod (Kerala) for generations to come. Your contribution will certainly help this school keep up with the competition. Thank you for reading.
PS : A portion of the 2018 Kannada movie ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆ ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು : ಕೊಡುಗೆ ರಾಮಣ್ಣ ರೈ by Rishab Shetty was shot in this school.
