The heavy weight of a parent's worst nightmare settled on Sukhwinder and Rajveer's hearts when they were told that their son wouldn't survive with a liver that was rapidly failing with time. When their son had been barely over a month old, his skin started yellowing and there was yellow in the pale edges of his eyes, indicating a disease that they hadn't been aware of before.

"My baby who was usually filled with enthusiasm suddenly didn't have the energy to stay awake. We knew something was wrong and immediately took him to a hospital in Chandigarh where he went through many tests until the doctor said those heart-shattering words... they told us that my son had severe jaundice because of a failing liver. They told us that due to the liver's damage, he wouldn't survive more than a few months. The ground beneath my feet shook, I didn't know what to do. Why did such a fate fall on such a young life?" - Rajveer Kaur, mother, voice trembling

They didn't give up, traveling through cities to give their son a fighting chance against his failing liver

Even when the initial diagnosis left them with no hope, Rajveer and Sukhwinder refused to give up on their youngest. Soon, they were referred to a hospital in Delhi where the doctor diagnosed the one-year-old baby with Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis (PFIC) related liver disease. It is a rare genetic disease where the bile that is responsible for digestion accumulates in the liver instead of flowing normally out of it.

"Our son's condition is barely managed by the medicines. The doctor has stated that his case is severe. The only way for him to survive is to get an urgent liver transplant. My wife is a suitable donor and willing to give a part of her liver to ensure his survival. But we are at our wit's end with the how much this surgery costs. They said the pre transplant expenses along with the procedure and hospital care will come to 18 lakh rupees. Poverty is a cruel monster, I need help to save my baby boy before this monster takes away his only chance of survival." - Sukhwinder Singh, father.

They have sold their lands and spent the last of their savings, they need your help to save him from his severe condition.

Sukhwinder is a low-wage farmer in a village in Faridkot, Punjab. He makes around 200 rupees in a day. His family consists of his two school-aged daughters, his wife, Rajveer, and their ailing one-year-old son. The family lives a very simple hand-to-mouth life, ans struggle to make ends meet. But they are still striving with everything in them to not let their circumstances fail their youngest.

"We have sold our lands, taken a loan, and spent all our savings, on his medications and hospital visitations. But this transplant's cost is impossible for us to bear on our own. He is a baby…. he has so much to live for and so much to see! But right now he is facing the worst of it all. He used to giggle every time his sisters stroked his cheeks in affection, now he can barely stop crying from the pain. His body can't digest food, he has a problem breathing and is supplied with oxygen. His swollen stomach doesn't let him move or sit. I close my eyes and pray each day for my baby's life. He should've been playing with his sisters but he cannot do more than sigh against my chest in debilitating exhaustion." - Rajveer, in tears.

Despite their simple lives and poverty-ridden fate, these parents dream of a future for their youngest to be bright and filled with open smiles. Your help has the power to make this a reality.
