    Son of Abdul Mamin

Watching your baby suffer in front of your eyes is the worst fate for a parent. He cannot even express his pain through words…all he can do is cry continuously until he runs out of breath. We try holding him and soothing him, but nothing is making him feel better. Medicines have stopped working too.” - Shamima Jahan, mother

Shamima and Abdul Mamin’s baby boy is only 6months old, but in these 6 months he has undergone unimaginable pain and suffering. He has not achieved any milestones, is not growing well and spends his days wailing and being irritable.

His parents had to rush him from their hometown in Bangladesh to a good hospital in India as a last resort in their efforts to save his life. Doctors have clearly told them that their child needs a liver transplant at the earliest or he could breathe his last. He may not live to celebrate his first birthday…and this thought is haunting his parents.

His harmless jaundice had progressed to something far deadlier in a matter of days

At birth, the poor child had yellowish eyes and passed unusually cloudy urine. He wasn’t able to suckle his mother’s milk, and this alarmed both Shamima and Abdul. Doctors had concluded that it was just severe jaundice that would go away in a few weeks’ time. But that isn’t what happened. His parents rushed him to India when his tummy started swelling up. It was here that he was diagnosed with biliary atresia – a condition in which the bile ducts in the liver are damaged or blocked.

“Now, his skin is pale and we frequently find blood in his stools. His condition is worsening with every passing minute. His liver is completely damaged. He is living on borrowed time.” - Shemima Jahan

‘We had to sell everything to get here…we have nothing left to save him’

When they realised that they had to seek better medical help for their child in India, these parents did not hesitate to sell all their possessions to pay for initial expenses. Abdul Mamin works in a private firm in Bangladesh and even ripped into all his life savings, as all he cared about was the welfare of his baby boy. It has been a few weeks since they have been in India now and they have completely run out of funds. They do not have any means to afford their son’s life-saving liver transplant now.

“All we want is for our child to come out of this alive – in some way or the other. We have tried our best, but we are both financially and mentally drained at this point. We have no one to call our own in India – no friends, no family. Please help us in our time of need. We cannot lose our only child only because we didn’t have enough money to save him.” – Abdul Mamin, tearfully.

It is only with your kind help that these parents can save their baby boy before he succumbs to liver damage. Click here to contribute.
