Even if you’re whispering in the same room as Shahria, she can’t bear the noise. She gets irritated at the slightest sound now. She covers her ears but she is too weak to say anything out loud. Shahria scribbles painfully in her diary, then shows it to her mother. It reads : ‘Ask them to stop Ammi, it’s...' She is too weak to even finish writing a sentence.

15-year-old Shahria is battling blood cancer. She is critical, she doesn’t have much time left. Her only hope is continued chemotherapy but her parents don’t know if they can afford that.

Her diary is her only companion now

Shahria has always loved reading books and writing her own stories. Her most prized possession is a diary in which she journals all that she is going through - her everyday pain, how she wants to go back home to her brothers.

“We tried hiding the truth from her, told her it was just a fever. But she knew it already by then.  She said it’s cancer but asked us not to cry. She knew it is treatable, she wouldn’t let any of us think otherwise. But sometimes I can’t hold back my tears, I feel so helpless. Shahria is the one who consoles me then, “ - Sayeeda Begum, mother.

Her entire school came together to help her but it’s not enough

Her teachers adore her for her brilliance, her friends love her for being fun-loving. They were all shocked when 4 months ago, they got to know that Shahria has Acute Myeloid Leukemia - a dangerous form of blood cancer.

“They know we won’t be able to afford her treatment on her own. My husband is an electrician, his income is just enough to support our family of four. Shahria’s school teachers and friends collected over a lakh to help her. We even sold our house for 8 lakhs. But even all of this combined hasn’t been enough…” - Sayeeda, mother.

She is getting worse with every passing day, please help us

Shahria runs a high temperature, sometimes she can’t even breathe without the oxygen mask. Her blood pressure keeps rising and she complains of severe pain in her stomach. The cancer is spreading and it is getting worse with every passing day.

“We need 3.75 lakhs more for her treatment but there is no way I can arrange for so much now. My hands are tied, the only way I can save my Shahria is with your help.” - Mohammed Shamim, father.

They're counting on your help to save Shahria's life - a small contribution from your side can make a big difference to them.
