Vijayapura: Nagaraj Hadapad, the nine-year-old boy clutches to his uncle, Kailash Hadapad as he carries an unexplainable fear of being left alone.
The boy, who just about five month ago was normal and playing and enjoying like other children of his age, no longer smiles, his childhood lost somewhere as remains mute all the time.
Native of Basarakod village of Muddebihal taluk, his colorful world has suddenly plunged into darkness as he lost his vision completely after the ear surgery he underwent in private hospital in Bagalkot in June this year.
His uncle, Kailash said that Nagaraj lost his mother when he was four, his farther who severe alcoholic, does not care his two children including a daughter.
“ The drinking addiction has destroyed the family of my brother and made his two children homeless”, said Mr. Kailash.
The 28-year-old uncle who has now take responsibility of two children, says the boy has remained completely attached to him mainly after losing the eyesight.
Recollecting the incident that left the innocent boy turn blind, Mr. Kailash said that his nephew had severe ear problem where puss like substance was oozing from his left ear for the last several year.
Because of the problem the boy used to complain of unbearable headache.
“ With the children not getting any care from the father, I left Bengaluru where I was working in petrol bunk. With the limited earning I came here to get treatment for Nagaraj”, he said.
Mr. Kailash said that he took his nephew to Kumareshwara Hospital in Bagalkot where the doctor said a surgery was essential to treat the boy.
“ Despite having BPL card, the hospital did not accept and I had to bear around Rs. 1 lakh for his treatment which I had earned in last several years. But the surgery destroyed the life of Nagaraj as within a month of surgery, he completely lost the vision”, he said.
Mr. Hadapad said that he consulted several ophthalmologists
ophthalmologists in Hubballi, Belagavi and Miraj in Maharashtra, but in vain.

“ He also met the neurologist in Kumareshwara hospital, but there, the doctors gave no positive news”, he said.
Meanwhile, an NGO, Association for People with Disabilities has come forward to help the boy.
Amid all this, the boy’s movements are confined to home, he no longer goes to school and remains mum.
“ I do not know what is going on in his mind, the boy who used to talk and play, has gone silent. I am poor man and doing everything I could to help my nephew, but thinking of future, my mind goes blank”, he says wiping the tear as he tightly holds hand of the boy.
