    This fundraiser will benefit

    Mohd Junaid

    from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

“When we got to know that Shaziya was pregnant, our happiness knew no bounds. After all, we were going to be first-time parents.  The moment I saw Junaid, I was spelled, he became my world and I wanted to raise him to the best of my abilities but look at me now, I am unable to save him from this wretched condition. I am failing to protect him.
- Shahbaz, father

His stomach is bulging beyond control

Junaid was 3 months old when he started falling sick. His stomach got swollen badly and he cried uncontrollably, unable to even take in any milk. He was later admitted in the local hospital for almost 10 days as he was diagnosed with an infection. Although he was discharged, his battle was far from over.  He is 2 now and still suffering from the condition every day. His stomach has bulged beyond control and frequently suffers from clots all over his body.

"After the treatment, his stomach was still feeling a little tight and we asked the doctor about it. They just said that it will get better with age but it never. After a few weeks of this incident, Junaid had to be admitted again in critical condition. We thought the worst was over and things will get better but we never thought he would be diagnosed with a life-threatening disease.”- Shaziya, mother

He needs a bone marrow transplant to survive

Junaid was diagnosed with Mendelian susceptibility to mycobacterial disease (MSMD),  a rare condition that makes him susceptible to mycobacterial infections at increased risk. He is extremely prone to infections and the only way to save his life is a bone marrow transplant.

“He was diagnosed long back but due to our inability to afford the transplant, we kept postponing it. All these months, we kept taking him to the local hospital for regular check-ups and managing his infections there itself. Every time we visit, they remind us that this is not a permanent solution and we know that. No matter how much we tried, we couldn’t save more than a few thousand which was just enough to get us to Delhi for his transplant. We are stranded now…” -Shahbaz

You are their only hope

Shahbaz works as a bike mechanic and Shaziya is a housewife. The income is just enough to run the house and they have to sometimes borrow for Junaid’s monthly treatment. The transplant will cost them more than 40 lakh rupees, which these poor parents cannot afford.

“Last year, for a very brief period of time, his health and growth were so good that we thought it is over. He started holding on to things and started framing sentences too. But we were so wrong, this battle is far from over. He is suffering so much every day and we are unable to save him from this misery.” -Shaziya
