    This fundraiser will benefit

    Taniya Bose

    from Kolkata, West Bengal

Taniya is my first cousin and one the strongest people I have known. Her cancer has crushed all her dreams. While vomiting in itself is painful, she has vomited blood for months. No words can describe the pain she is going through. It has kept her away from her closest person, her dad too. But what cancer has not been able to do is, snatch her willpower to live.

My name is Ankita and Taniya is my closest cousin. She lives in Debogram while I lived in Birati, West Bengal. As kids, we used to wait for holidays so that we could be together. Now she stays with me all the time and I just wish for her to go home cancer free and live her life to the fullest. I am dying for that day.

Taniya was a very happy person since childhood. I haven’t seen her utter a bad word even when she is crazily angry. She has always been that person filled with energy. But now life isn’t the same for her anymore. Neither is it for us.

Fate took a bad turn when my sister was just 21. One day when she was in college she vomited blood. When she came back home and told us about this, we were scared. We were told that there were some ENT problems. But when even that didn’t stop her blood vomits, we took her to different doctors. Lumps were discovered and she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

We cried so much, we were shattered completely. But it was Taniya’s willpower that kept us going. After all this while, nobody is left with any strength. But Taniya is determined to live. She went through 6 rounds of painful chemotherapy for 6 months with a constant smile.

After this phase, we were glad that finally, Taniya can live healthily and fulfill the dreams she had.  She was undergoing regular check-ups every 3 months and we were happy that things were working out for her.

A graduate in history, Taniya had started her B.Ed and was determined to become a teacher. She wanted to bring a change in the world in her little possible way. But her education and career have come to a standstill.

In December last year, when she started vomiting again, even the doctors told us that there was nothing to worry about. When I got married in January this year, I could clearly see my sister not enjoying and coughing day in and out.

She wanted to get herself scanned and the reports were horrifying. Her cancer was back again to kill her. Chemotherapy alone can no longer save her. Stem cell transplant is the only way that can take her pain away. But she has to undergo painful chemotherapy and radiation before her stem cell transplant can be done.

Taniya keeps telling me that she wants to study like our other cousins. I tell her that she can go back once she is fine. Although she doesn’t express her pain ever, I don’t think this comforts her.

Not just because she’s my sister, but Taniya is one of the strongest persons I have known. In all these times, I have never seen her shed a drop of tear. She calls Mama and keeps telling him ‘I am going to fight and get back. You don’t worry. I will take care of your business.’ Nobody can look at her and tell that she cancer is corroding her.

My Mama is a very small businessman and earned just enough to fulfill the basic necessities of life. He’s still trying to gather money and that has kept him away from his dying daughter. He can only visit her once a month only for 5 hours. Both Mama and Taniya are too upset because of this. But I guess that’s how life is, unfair.

He has already spent 15 lakhs so far on my sister’s treatment. We’re not rich to help them through this completely. It’s very difficult for all of us to sail through the situation. But we can’t let Taniya’s dreams and willpower to die.

How you can help
