“I’m going to be just fine. Don’t worry, okay? Smile.” – Bhavani, to her mother

Young Bhavani is 18 years old. She loves dancing, she loves painting, she loves experimenting in the kitchen and coming up with new recipes. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up and save lives for a living.

Bhavani is sweet, kind, strong, and responsible – the kind of daughter that all parent prays for.

And she only has one week left to live.

Bhavani has been diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease, a life-threatening condition where one’s liver stops functioning, leading to the rapid decline of the rest of the body’s systems as well. She gets frequent fevers, she vomits regularly, she is in pain all the time – body aches and headaches. The only way she can live beyond the week is with a liver transplant, a procedure that will cost 20 Lakhs.

Her family is devastated. Her mother has barely stopped crying since she was diagnosed, unable to imagine a world without her daughter in it. Her father has been beating himself up for being too poor to save his daughter’s life. Her brother is so distraught he wants to give her his own liver if it will save her life; he has nominated himself as the donor.

Throughout all this, Bhavani herself hasn’t lost her positive attitude.

“I’ll be fine, I have to be. If I’m not, who will take care of my family? They need me.”  – Bhavani

Her family – both parents and her brother – are daily wagers. When she had told them that she wanted to pursue medicine after she graduated high school, instead of joining them in their line of work, they could not have been more proud of her. They too dreamed with her, of a better future, a happier one.

But in a cruel twist of fate, the girl who wanted to save the world needs to be saved first. Her family cannot afford the surgery, but you can help.

Donate, and you can save her life. More importantly, you can keep her dreams alive.
