“It feels like a curse that I couldn’t even feed my child once since he was born. Huzaifa is my first child and I don’t feel complete as a mother. My heart pains seeing him with needles and saline. He was born a healthy child but within a week he lost so much weight.” - Sameera (mother).
Sameera was having lactation insufficiency after giving birth. She had to try formula and even buffalo milk. Unfortunately, her baby boy vomited anything she gave him. Alarmed at how he was losing weight, she took him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with cow milk protein allergy (CMPA). This condition is so serious that Sameera's son is in the ICU.
How serious is it?
Our immune system normally protects our bodies from harmful bacteria and viruses. In CMPA, the immune system mistakes a protein in cow’s milk as a harmful substance and attacks it. This reaction can damage the baby’s stomach and intestines and that is what exactly happened to baby Huzaifa.“Doctors say my son’s intestines are fully infected and that some acid is damaging the stomach also, I do not understand what is happening but definitely know that his life is in danger now.” - Badruzama, father
He is not even able to express his pain…
“What can he say he is so small, he cries and hasn’t slept in days. He didn’t even open his eyes properly to see us and…” - Badruzama (father)
Huzaifa has been having loose motions at least 6-7 times every hour and has become very weak. He is dehydrated, malnourished and may starve to death without this treatment.
Baby Huzaifa is in ICU now battling for his life, his intestines are being treated with antibiotics. It is only the IV fluids and antibiotics that can save his life but his father cannot afford the treatment anymore.
“I have borrowed and my friends have been very generous but I have reached my limit. 4 lakhs of loan is there on my shoulders I can’t… I will lose him if I can’t…”Badruzama
