He's Bullied By Friends For Wearing A Diaper Because Of A Disease

“My son loves going to school and playing with his friends. But now, he runs back home during recess saying his friends don’t include him in their games for wearing a diaper. No one sits next to him in the class as he leaks frequently every minute. He needs to go to the washroom once in a while in the middle of his classes and he gets bullied for that too”, says Hariharan’s Mother.

5-year-old Hariharan was born healthy but once he started growing up his parents noticed that he has a small phallus which is upturned and, the urine leaks all the time with a persistent odour. He has undergone multiple surgeries from the beginning at various hospitals but nothing acted as a remedy. To cure this condition completely, the kid has to undergo surgical correction, with 10 days of hospital stay and medication.

Nowadays he feels shy to even come out of the house because of this. He asks us all the time why he has to wear them when his friends dont . Moreover, buying a packet of diaper every two to three days is something we can’t afford. When we don’t have money to buy them, we use cloth napkins which sometimes leads to infection in his urinary tract” – Hariharan’s father.

They travel seven hours a day to reach the hospital for weekly checkups and sleep at night in the hospital’s parking area since they couldn’t afford a hotel room.

Hariharan’s parents are construction workers who run their family of four with a meagre wage of Rs.300 per day. Before coming to Apollo he got treated in various hospitals in different cities which only intensified his illness due to improper diagnosis and care. His medical expenses became so high that they had to do odd jobs, pawn their jewels and take loans with high interests to manage the treatment costs.

“As soon as he gets the surgery done the doctor sir has promised that my child can go back to school and be normal like any other kid. But we are helpless right now as we don’t have enough money to fund the surgery. The daily wages I earn is only sufficient for paying interests to the loans and for buying his medicines. Please help us cure my child’s disease. All I wish for is to see him go back to school smiling, study and play with his friends like any normal kid” – Hariharan’s father.
