“It truly feels like our family has been cursed. First, our daughter gets diagnosed with a deadly disease, and now even our son. Both our children are fighting for their lives, and all I can do is watch helplessly. What have we done to deserve such a painful fate? Our Hardhik is only a baby! Why does he have to suffer like this, before he has even had the chance to see the world?” - Nisha, mother

He was diagnosed with a severe liver disease days after his birth

For Harpreet and Nisha, their 9-month-old son Hardhik is nothing less than a little miracle. Nisha's pregnancy came as a total surprise, and the couple had been eagerly waiting for their baby boy to join them earth-side. But, instead of being thrilled at his arrival, these parents were filled with dread and fear for their baby’s life.

“Some days after his birth, we noticed that he had little lumps on his back. We immediately took him to a local hospital, where he was admitted for over a month and underwent numerous tests. Finally, they told us that he has a condition called biliary atresia and would need to undergo a surgical (Kasai) procedure to fix it. We thought that was all he would need and that he would be completely fine after his surgery. But we were so wrong…” - Harpreet, father

His surgery failed, now his liver is damaged and only a transplant can save him

Biliary atresia is a rare disease occuring in infants, where bile flow from the liver to the gallbladder is blocked. This causes the bile to be trapped inside the liver, resulting in damage and scarring of the liver cells and eventually leading to liver failure.

“His health rapidly deteriorated after the Kasai procedure. He contracted jaundice, and his eyes and whole body began to turn yellow. He would cry all the time, and even have trouble while passing motion. We then found out that his surgery had failed and now his liver is damaged. They told us that a liver transplant is his only option, or we could lose him…” - Nisha

Their daughter is battling a life-threatening disease too, they need your help

In February this year, around the time that he was born, Hardhik's 9-year-old sister was diagnosed with blood cancer. She has been undergoing chemotherapy, while he is being treated for his liver condition.

With each passing day, Hardhik’s condition only worsens and even the medicines he has been prescribed aren’t having much effect on him. His life now depends on a liver transplant. But between saving his children’s lives and keeping his family afloat, Harpreet is overburdened by mounting hospital fees and debts. In this state, he cannot afford the INR 16.5 lakh that he needs for his son’s procedure.

“I am only a school bus driver earning a meagre income, which is barely enough to support my family. But with the pandemic and lockdown last year, I had no work and no source of income. It was nothing short of hell for us. But just as things started looking up, my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Everything I had, I have used up in my children’s treatment. I have nothing left now, and I’m at my wit’s end…” - Harpreet

Time is running out, and little Hardhik needs a liver transplant at the earliest. With your contribution he will be able to undergo the procedure and live a happy and healthy life. Click here to donate.
