“I went to school only for a day after I learnt that I had been promoted to 11th grade. My parents were so happy with my marks. I was looking forward to a bright future when everything fell apart. My kidneys are completely damaged. I will not be able to survive if I do not get a new set of kidneys.” - the 14-year-old girl.

 
The world turned upside down in 2017, for this 14-year-old girl. Diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, she faced an uncertain future. Her parents, Emerivindal and Nelson, were shocked to learn that young children could get diagnosed with such deadly diseases, without explanation or cause. Despite being devastated, they did not lose hope. They fought to keep her alive, and were successful until now.

Amidst the challenges, the young girl's spirit remained resilient

She did not let her health issues stop her from going to school or trying to live a normal life. Excelling in academics, she scored an impressive 349 out of 500 in her 10th grade exams. Hope was bright until May of this year when she suddenly fell ill and had to be hospitalised.

"She suffered from high fever and had to be admitted to the ICU. That’s when we learnt that she has end-stage chronic kidney disease. She needs dialysis twice every week to survive. Her blood count is low, blood pressure is high, and she is hanging between life and death." - Emerivindal, mother.

Her dreams are now on pause

Today, she is confined to her home, under the care of her grandmother and father, who had to return from his workplace in Chennai soon after he came to know of his daughter’s plight. Her condition has deteriorated significantly, and she cannot walk due to excruciating leg pain. With the dialysis catheter attached to her neck, she cannot sleep or rest comfortably either.

"We see our daughter suffer every day, and it breaks our hearts. All we want is to see her healthy and smiling again. She had so many hopes for her future - everything is shattered now." - Nelson, father

They are desperate for financial help to save her

The family's financial situation adds to their anguish. Dialysis charges are covered, but her daily medicines cost 499 INR, and the necessary injections are an additional financial strain. With Nelson's seasonal job and Emerivindal's modest income as a sanitation worker, they are struggling to make ends meet. Loans have piled up, and they have exhausted all their resources for their elder daughter's college education.
