“When I woke up 2 days after my delivery, my husband and baby were not beside me. I didn’t know what was going on, but then I found out that my newborn had to be taken to a bigger hospital. I was so scared that something terrible had happened. I never got to see him or hold him after he was born. Now he is so far away from me, that I can only rely on my husband’s words to know how he is doing. I long to have him in my arms…” - Priyanka, mother
Hours after his birth he started to have breathing troubles
Priyanka and Ravi are a fairly young couple, who started their married life together a year ago. When they learned they would become a family of 3, they had been excited to start this new chapter of their lives. After a smooth sailing pregnancy, Priyanka gave birth to a healthy baby boy, weighing 2.5 kgs, through a c-section on September 27. But neither of them expected things to go wrong in a matter of hours.“We’d waited for him for months and when I finally got to hold him, it was like a dream come true. But only 2 hours later, I noticed that our baby was gasping for breath. I called for the doctor to look at him, and by that evening I learned of his heart problem. They advised me to take him to a bigger hospital that was more equipped to treat him, and overnight, an ambulance took us to Nizamabad.” - Ravi
“When we got to the hospital, my baby was whisked away for more tests. Within hours, they’d confirmed that he had a severe heart condition that would require surgery. But they weren’t equipped enough to help my baby, so we had to seek a bigger hospital elsewhere. The ambulance took us to Hyderabad, and my baby was immediately rushed to the NICU.” - Ravi
She is eagerly waiting to see her baby
Priyanka had been drifting in and out of consciousness for about 4 days post delivery, and when she woke up, her husband and her baby were nowhere to be seen. It was only when her family informed her that she learned about her baby's condition. She’s still recovering from giving birth and has not received the green light to travel. So, she gets regualr updates about her baby from her husband, over the phone.“I haven’t divulged all the details to her yet. She’s still extremely weak and we have been careful to not let her stress over anything while she’s recovering. I keep telling her that our baby is fine and we’ll be home soon, but that is far from the truth. Our baby cannot breathe on his own - there are machines keeping him alive right now, and he’s covered in tubes from head to toe! His condition is very fragile...” - Ravi
After spending everything he had, he is struggling to save his baby
Priyanka and Ravi’s baby is barely a month old and fighting for his life, before he has even had a chance to live it. His father is a private employee, but his salary is nowhere close to being enough to get him the treatment he needs. Ravi has spent all his savings, borrowed from friends and family, sold his land and his wife’s jewellery to afford his baby’s medical expenses.“It’s still not enough. The bills continue to pile up and now I am left with nothing. There is no way I can bear the rest of the expenses, especially since I’m so far away from home and unable to work. My baby is gasping for every breath he takes, and I am failing to save him. His life has just begun, yet he’s struggling so much already. I’m running out of options now and I don’t know what to do. Please help me…” - Ravi
