    This fundraiser will benefit

    Baby of Gayatri

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

“They asked me why I wanted to save her, why I wanted to spend lakhs on a girl child. The people I went to borrow money from even asked me to just leave her in the hospital and go back home! How can people still say these things in this day and age? Why would I leave my baby to die…I’m willing to do anything to save her. Anything.”
– Nitin, father

Every phone call is scary – I only expect the worst

Nitin and Gayatri haven’t left the hospital since their baby girl was admitted. She had a heart surgery when she was 8-days-old, and has been in the ICU ever since. She needs to stay there for longer, to get stronger and breathe on her own again. For her heart to work normally.

“She was only 8 days old when we took her to the hospital because she couldn’t breathe. They told us it was a heart disease and that she would need surgery immediately. I borrowed 3 lakhs for the surgery…and now I have nothing left to keep her in the ICU. We haven’t left the hospital…what if I get a call? What if something happens and I’m not here? I can’t leave. But on some days, I don’t feel like staying also because watching her suffer is the most painful thing…”

We share one meal between the 3 of us

Gayatri is inconsolable on some days. When they enter the ICU together, just a glance of her baby, and she breaks down. Nitin tries to console her, tells her everything will be okay. But on some days, he needs someone to tell him that too.

“Our 3-year-old son is also with us in the hospital. All 3 of us sleep in the waiting room. Nowadays we even share one meal a day because I can’t afford anything else. Right now I’m sitting in the parking area, trying to think of what else I can do…how else can I save my baby girl and take her home..”

How you can help

Nitin has gone to relatives, to money lenders and to friends. Some have helped as much as they good, the others have closed their doors on him. He has nowhere else to go. Nitin earns Rs. 8,000 per month as a craftsman. His baby girl needs to stay in the ICU for longer to recover. Only you can help her.
