    Baby of Asma

    from Telangana

15 days ago, Moqueed received a phone call that would change his life – his wife, Asma and unborn child were in danger. She had to deliver the baby immediately or else, he could lose them both. Moqueed wasted no time in leaving for Chennai from Hyderabad. He took the first train that was available. That was the first and last time he saw his baby.

“I’m counting down the days to when my husband can be with us again. He has just seen our son once…just last month we were talking about how we will be a family soon. We knew our lives would change after our baby was born, but not like this! I can’t be with our baby because of the surgery, my husband is working hard to keep him alive…sometimes I wonder if we’ll ever have the family we dreamt of.” – Asma, mother

They can't be together during their toughest, darkest times

If you’re a parent, you will understand that the minute your baby is born, everything becomes about them. Everything you do, you do it for your baby – even if it means risking your own life. Asma and Moqueed too did the same – even if it meant the couldn’t be together during the toughest days of their lives. Moqueed had to go back to Hyderabad for work – it’s the only way he can keep his son alive.

His organs have not even developed yet - he can't survive without help

Their baby was born in the 7th month of pregnancy. Premature and underweight, his organs have not even developed yet. He can’t breathe or even feed on his own. He needs to stay in the NICU longer to survive. But Moqueed and Asma have nothing.

“Until the 6th month of my pregnancy, everything was fine. All my scans came back normal. I came to live with my mother near Chennai…Moqueed was supposed to come here in the 9th month. But everything that we had planned changed. Our whole lives.”

Asma still remembers how as soon as her baby was born, he was taken away from her. He was too small, they said. Too weak to make it on his own. Ever since then the little one has been in the NICU on oxygen support. It’s the only way he can get stronger and go home.

Moqueed works for a private company and earns Rs. 10,000 per month. The daily expenses in the NICU come up to Rs. 15,000 per day. The treatment is not something Moqueed can afford without help. He has been away from his wife and child, working day and night to try and continue his treatment. But it’s not enough. He needs your support.
