“When I saw blood coming out of my daughter’s face like that, from her ears, and her nose, and her mouth... it was the most scared I have ever been in my whole life.” - Mahebub, father
Mahebub’s daughter, Anaya, is only 4 years old. Two months ago, he and his wife, Sumayya, had to take little Anaya to a small hospital in their village because of a high fever she suddenly got. While she was hospitalized immediately, the doctors were not able to diagnose what had caused the fever. One day turned into two, and two turned into three, but they were still no closer to understanding what was wrong inside her. With each passing day, Mahebub and Sumayya only got increasingly worried. Finally, ten days later, the doctors made the diagnosis. And it was so far from anything Anaya’s family had been ready to hear - blood cancer.
The doctors at that hospital told them that they wouldn’t be able to treat her and to take her to a bigger hospital. By then, a lot of precious time had been lost, and little Anaya was getting worse and worse.
“She had started bleeding from her mouth, then her nose, then even her ears! I was so terrified! It seemed like someone had cursed my innocent angel, and I prayed and prayed for her to get better.” - Mahebub
Anaya has since been admitted to a bigger hospital where they’ve been able to stop the bleeding, but she needs urgent chemotherapy. She still gets high fever every few days that makes her so weak she can barely open her eyes, the lightest of touches make her skin bruise immediately, and there has been so much muscle loss in her legs that when she is awake she can't walk on her own anymore. Without urgent chemotherapy, her condition is only going to get worse. But the treatment is too expensive for Mahebub.
“I’m just a fruit-seller. After my father and brother died in an accident, I’ve been singlehandedly supporting my mother, my sister-in-law, her four children, my wife, and Anaya, month to month. When the doctors told me how much it would cost to save my daughter’s life, I just… I burst into tears. I’ve borrowed as much money as I can from everyone I know, but I’ll never be able to put together enough to save my daughter.” - Mahebub
The situation is critical for little Anaya. Her family cannot afford the treatment to keep her alive. You are the only hope now for this precious little girl.
