“How could we have known that his condition would be this bad? He can’t even tell us that he’s in pain. I just wish he recovers soon.”
Mounika’s 5-month-old baby boy was born with jaundice. His parents thought he would eventually recover. But his condition simply didn't get better. He was barely a month old when he became very sick. He cried the whole day. Unable to understand what was wrong with him, they rushed him to the hospital. The baby had Biliary Atresia - he had a blocked bile duct. After running a few tests, he underwent a surgery, but it did not help. By now, his liver is completely damaged and the only thing that can save this baby is a liver transplant.
Their dreams of parenthood were shattered even before their baby uttered his first wordsMounika and her husband Srinivasulu were excited about parenthood. They anticipated the happiness and fulfillment of being parents. But their baby’s diagnosis came as a big shock. They never expected their child to be fighting for his life right after his birth. He cries all the time, and his stomach is swollen because of his liver condition. His parents feel helpless as they see him suffer, but they can do nothing to take away his pain.
“We thought of naming him during his fifth month. He is 5 months old now, and even before he has a name, he is fighting for his life. No parent should have to go through this.”
Mounika and Srinivasulu wanted their baby to be healthy and happy and grow up. Instead, they are staring at the very real possibility that he may not even make it. At first, they didn’t even know how to react to this news, it just seemed too unreal to happen to them. But now, every day counts and they’re fighting tooth and nail to save their baby boy.
Their poor financial condition makes them feel even more helplessDespite all odds, Mounika and Srinivasulu are willing to do whatever it takes to save their baby. But the biggest hindrance they’re facing is the lack of funds. They earn their living through farming. The last few seasons have been really bad for them, and they don’t have any money left. Whatever they earned was barely enough to get by. Affording their baby's treatment is simply impossible.
So far, they have managed to arrange for Rs 4 lakhs towards the treatment and hospital bills. They borrowed from friends and relatives in order to meet these expenses, but now all their reserves have run dry. They simply don't have enough to save their baby and get him a life-saving liver transplant.
