Navodyami, an initiative of the Deshpande Foundation in Hubli, Karnataka, works to create new entrepreneurs at the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid in rural and peri-urban cities of north-west Karnataka. Aspiring entrepreneurs submit their proposals for review. Navodyami looks for ideas that are innovative, responsive to people’s needs, and ethically run. Selected candidates are each assigned a mentor for skills development, business planning, and strategy to setup their enterprises. They set up their businesses in the ‘Hubli Sandbox' – a remarkable ecosystem with support to incubate ideas, learn from leaders, and access growth opportunities. Navodyami’s success stories include food processing units; mobile repair services, and product shops in rural areas.
