About Hippocampus
Hippocampus Learning Centres (HLC) runs affordable early education and after-school programs among low-income communities in Karnataka, India. It runs 130 learning centers for pre-school and kindergarten children in 104 villages of Karnataka’s Mandya and Davangere districts. HLC generates employment by training and hiring deserving locals as teachers. The centers’ setup costs are covered by investor funds and donations to the Hippocampus Reading Foundation (HRF) trust. By 2016, HLC plans to extend these programs to low-income communities in North Karnataka and Maharashtra. Milaap’s partnership with HLC will help cover the costs of providing 2 low-cost tablets to each center. The tablets will serve as learning aids to help students understand and apply concepts taught in class.
