6-Month-Old’s Fluid-Filled Brain Is Growing Bigger And Eyes Are Bulging Out, Without Surgery His Life Is At Risk

It has become so difficult to hold him now. We must position his head delicately or it will hurt his shoulders. He cannot balance it on his own. His body is thin and weak and does not have the strength to carry his head anymore.”- Sunita, mother.

6-month-old Tanash is suffering from a severe condition called hydrocephalus, which is the buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. The excess fluid increases the size of these cavities and puts intense pressure on the brain. Without immediate treatment and surgery, this pressure can cause permanent brain damage and even eventually lead to death.

His journey from birth to this very moment has been filled with suffering

Baby Tanash and his twin sister were born premature and were in hospital for more than two months. They were both underweight and could not breathe on their own due to birth-related complications. But everything was fine, and they both got better soon. Sanjay and Sunita were spending a blissful time with their babies as new parents, when Tanash started getting sick again.
Tanash, when he was healthy

“He would cry a lot in the beginning. At that point, we did not notice anything else. But within a few days his head started getting bigger. It was like something was growing inside his brain. We were scared so we rushed him to the same hospital that he was born in, but the doctors said we would need to take him to a multispecialty hospital as he would need advanced surgery.” - Sanjay.

They exhausted everything on his earlier treatment, are now left with nothing

Baby Tanash and his twin sister, being premature babies, had to be admitted to the NICU for better care and treatment. Sanjay had to shell out almost INR 2 lakhs to keep them alive and well. He was successful in saving them as a father, but now he is at the same crossroads with no money and no help.

"I have already incurred a lot of debt from the NICU treatment. I was in the process of paying it all back when my son got sick again. I don’t know what Ill do now. Tanash’s condition is worsening, and he needs surgery soon or I will lose him.” – Sanjay.
