Mother Who Lost Son in Road Accident Now Helps Victims With Prosthetic Legs, Artificial Hands & Wheelchairs

My name is Chigurupati Vimala, and I am the founder of the Sudheekshan Foundation.

I was born into a humble agricultural family and worked as a teacher for 25 years, offering free education to rural children. But nothing in life prepared me for the moment that shattered my world forever.

I lost my only son, Sudheekshan, in a brutal road accident. He was just 20 years old—so full of life, with dreams of becoming a great software engineer. He was hit by a drunk lorry driver, careless and speeding. My son lay there on the road, bleeding, helpless… and no one came forward to help him.

No mother should have to outlive her child. That day, a part of me died too. But from that pain, I found a purpose.

In his memory, I started the Sudheekshan Foundation, just ten days after his passing. I vowed to dedicate the rest of my life to support road accident victims—those who, like my son, suffer silently, often ignored and forgotten.

After I lost my son, I started seeing his face in every accident victim I met. That pain never left me. But I turned it into action. I began helping those who had lost their limbs in road accidents—giving them prosthetic legs, artificial hands, and wheelchairs so they could live again.

Every year, we provide around 300 prosthetic limbs. So far, we have given over 5,000 prosthetic legs and more than 500 artificial hands to people who had no other support. Today, I watch some of them walk, cycle, even run. They smile again. They earn again. And in their new life—I see a part of my son live on.

But the need is growing. Every month, at least 20 people reach out to us.With our limited funds, we’re only able to help 6 of them. I receive 20 to 25 calls a day, mostly from young accident survivors—some bedridden, some unable to walk. I want to help each one of them… but our resources are falling short.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you. I couldn’t save my Sudheekshan. But maybe, with your support, I can help someone else walk again.Help someone go back to school. Help a parent go back to work. Help a survivor live again.
