"My younger son has seen his elder brother being painfully poked with needles for his blood transfusion. We didn't know how to prepare our younger one for this painful life too, but my elder son made up a story. He told him that they are both superheroes and that blood is their super potion that will help them fight all enemies. He readily agreed after hearing that and it was such a heartbreaking moment for me as I realized this deadly blood disorder has taken away my children's innocence at this young age." - Chandana, mother

He received a transplant last year but still battles for his life in the ICU
As time passed, the elder son's duration between each transfusion kept narrowing down and he needed blood more frequently to function. The only cure was a transplant but that could not happen in Assam. Jinti made the difficult decision of leaving everything behind and came to Bangalore in the hopes of getting his son a cure, with whatever was left in his pocket. After struggling for a year here, their son finally managed to get a transplant in June 2022 with his mother as his donor.
With two ailing kids to tend to, this distraught couple is losing all hopes now
But following the transplant, Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a life-threatening complication has gripped his body attacking his tissues and organs severely since a year. He still needs weeks of intensive antibiotics and treatment to be able to beat this infection now, but they have no means left to be able to afford 12 lakh rupees to carry on with his hospitalization."It was becoming mentally taxing for me to run from one hospital to another and watch both of my children terribly suffer from this blood disorder. Amidst all the stress, if we lapsed even one schedule of their blood transfusion while attending to the other, it would backfire and lead to us almost losing them due to dangerously low blood counts. I thought everything would get better soon after my son's transplant. A sense of relief was there, but within a month a host of infections started attacking his organ tissues again and my son is again battling for his life now." - Jinti Ram, father

It originated as a respiratory infection but as the infection continues to spread rapidly all over his body, his kidneys and liver are also showing signs of damage. His skin is darkening and their son is barely recognisable now. All this has led to panic in this family as they live in the fear of losing him every moment.
From selling vegetables on the footpath, he would never be able to afford his son's treatment
He took massive loans for his son's transplant and was preparing to start saving for his younger one's treatment. For a vegetable seller like Jinti, everyday earnings are the only income they depend on but he lost that too after he left Assam.
"I used to sit on the footpath and sell vegetables in my hometown. It got me Rs. 300-350 a day, but now, our weekly medical expenses are mounting up lakhs of rupees. It is beyond me to even figure out how to arrange for 12 lakhs when I've lost even my only source of income. I had borrowed huge loans from people for his transplant, but none of them will help him again until I repay the dues."- Jinti Ram, father
With two ailing kids, Jinti and Chandana are torn about who to attend to. Their children keep questioning these parents about each other and all they do is lie about each one's well-being to the other.

"Our kids cry asking us to rid them of this pain but the truth is we both are extremely terrified. I stay in the room to attend to my 5 year old, while Jinti stays near my elder one's hospital bed. Instead of taking turns to play with our kids, we take turns to take them to the hospital for transfusions. That breaks my heart. I used to pray to God to bless me with kids, but now I wish He hadn't for them to only suffer like this." - Chandana, mother
