Urgent: His Stomach Can Explode Killing Him. He Immediately Needs A Liver Transplant
“Nothing has been going well in our life for a long time now. My wife and I got married in 2016 and we lived a wonderful, happy life for a whole year and our joy was doubled by the birth of our son in 2017. But soon after, things started going downhill. I wonder whose evil eye was cast on our happiness because now, I am unwell and unable to work properly, we have no money and worst of all – we are slowly losing our son to a severe liver disease.” – Devaraj, father.
Devaraj and Dhanalakshmi’s 5-year-old son carries a huge burden at this young, tender age. It is both a physical and psychological one – even though it is being manifested only physically for now. He has a huge swollen stomach filled with infected water which is caused by his damaged liver. Only a liver transplant can save him, but his poor parents cannot afford it at all.
‘People tell us to give up on him…but we cannot even think of that’
Just a few days after their baby boy was born, Dhanalakshmi noticed that he had a swelling in his abdomen and he also looked rather yellow all over. Tests were conducted, which told these worried parents that their son had a condition due to which his liver ducts were blocked. He underwent an emergency surgery and his parents believed that this would cure him – but it didn’t. His tummy started progressively getting bigger with each passing year, he did not hit growth milestones and he regularly started suffering from fever and infections.“He has never gone to school. The only place he goes to frequently is the hospital. We have spent all our money on trying to get him treated – we have given him many medicines over the years, which did not work. We have tried our best to save him, but he gets worse for some reason. People, including family members, have asked us to give up on him. But as his mother, I cannot even think of such a terrible thing let alone do it.” – Dhanalakshmi, mother.
‘I lost my small business, all my savings have been wiped out -how do I save him?’
A few years after his son was born, Devaraj got into a bike accident which caused severe nerve damage in his limbs. He was bedridden and hospitalised for over 6 months. This led to him losing the water can business that he ran in his neighbourhood in Chennai. After that, owing to his compromised health, he could only take up odd jobs to make ends meet. His wife Dhanalakshmi had to start going to work because the money that he brought home was never enough for their son’s hospital needs. Now, the child is in a critical condition – if he does not get a transplant soon, he will lose his life.“I feel like I have failed both as a husband and as a father. My wife is forced to work instead of being home to take care of our child. My child is in pain and I have not yet been able to arrange the funds for his procedure. I am going through the worst phase of my life. Please help me, please.” – Devaraj
