Shehnaz (13) has been diagnosed with Kyphoscoliosis and she requires a deformity correction surgery to recover. It is an abnormal condition characterized by a curvature of the spine. This condition has hampered the growth of this child—her legs, toes, fingers, and hands are long and thin, whereas her upper body is short due to the curved spinal cord.

Although she has known only pain, Shehnaz has not let her condition break her spirit. She continued to go to school and in fact, even did well. But slowly as the years passed, her condition worsened.“Shehnaz is a brave and mature girl who understands and accepts her physical deformity. She is a bright child who excelled in studies and art. We had to discontinue her studies for the last 2 years as she was not able to sit for long in class due to intense back pain. Shehnaz’s health condition is getting worse as the lateral curvature of the spine is now pressing hard against her heart. She has been experiencing throbbing pain in the chest. The doctors have advised that she needs to undergo a surgery at the earliest to avoid further complications. Unfortunately, her parents can't afford it.
“I have waited for years hoping that my daughter would recover. I feel now is the time and I am confident that God will have some mercy on us. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to afford 8 lakh Rupees for the treatment. I am only a driver and earn less than 500 Rupees a day. We have already spent a lot on her treatment.
