This Autorickshaw Driver Begs Outside The Hospital To Afford His 12-Year Old Son's Liver Transplant

12-year old Raja keeps asking his parents why his stomach keeps swelling up even when he doesn't eat anything. At his age, he doesn't know much about what a liver does, but he understands that
he needs a new one to survive now.

"After 3 months of medicines for Jaundice, there was hardly any improvement in my son's health. His eyes and skin were still yellow. His fever would sometimes shoot up to 105 degrees, making him lose his senses. Every day there were numerous tests he underwent, until one day we found out that his liver is 75 percent damaged, and now he can survive only with a new liver." - Rinki, mother

This 12-year old is battling 2 life-threatening diseases at once

Last year in June, Raja ran frequent fevers and his appetite had considerably reduced. Along with chronic liver failure, he is also suffering from a disorder called Wilson's Disease. He was immediately put on heavy metal toxicity medications because instead of filtering, his body was retaining copper at dangerously high levels.

After selling off his auto, he is now begging for help to save his son

Ranjit, an auto driver, sold his auto rickshaw and took his son all the way to Chennai, from their hometown in Bengal, for treatment. Unaware that his entire life savings would be exhausted in just testing and medicines, he is now begging everyone for help.

"We haven't paid the lodge rent here since a month. I'm begging for money from strangers on the street and sometimes if some kind soul gives me Rs.50 or Rs.100, only then am I able to feed my son and wife. There is not a single relative or lender whom I don't owe money to. How will I get 27 lakhs for his surgery?" - Ranjit, father

His mother is a matched donor, but they still can't get the surgery done

Luckily, Rinki is a matched donor for Raja, but if they are unable to arrange 26.6 lakhs soon, they will run out of luck. With hospital bills mounting up and a warning to evict the lodge, they have no support in this city and are terrified of how they will manage their son's treatment.

"I was so happy when the doctors informed me that I can be my son's donor. I asked them to immediately do the surgery and save my son. But as soon as they explained to me the costs that we will incur for the surgery, my husband and I were completely shattered because it was way beyond our means." - Rinki, mother

An active kid once, Raja now quietly sits in the hope that one day his parents will finally take him out of the hospital. Like other kids, he wishes to play and run around but that will only be possible with a liver transplant. Ranjit had to pull his daughter out of school due to theor financial difficulties. Every day, they are desperately searching for some way or the other to arrange for money, but in vain.
