Temple Trip Turns Tragic: A Son's Unwavering Quest to Save His Mother's Life

“I have witnessed the pain etched on my father's face as he watches my mother battle her injuries from the accident. But through it all, he remains strong and dedicated to her. Day after day, he cares for her with gentle hands, his love shining brightly even when his heart is breaking seeing my mother in this condition. I've come to realize that true love isn't just about the happy moments, but also the courage to face the darkest days together.” - Naveen, son

She suffered a severe head injury, falling off a running bike

In March 2022, 58-year-old Pushpa had been heading to the temple, riding pillion on her son, Naveen’s bike, when all of a sudden, she fell off the running two-wheeler. She landed head-first on the ground, sustaining a severe head injury that led to seizures and left her unconscious.

“I will never forget that day. Watching my mother fall off that bike was like witnessing my entire world come crashing down, her laughter turning into screams of pain. We rushed her to the hospital in critical condition, and waited with baited breath as she underwent emergency surgery… following which, her condition came under control and she was put on ventilator support. But that was just the beginning. We hadn’t known just how much pain and suffering would be in store for my mother back then…” - Naveen

Complications arose after the first surgery, which required her to undergo several more life-saving procedures

The journey that followed was a rollercoaster of emotions, as her family watched Pushpa fight for her life in the hospital. The surgeon had removed a bone flap during her first surgery, which hadn’t been replaced immediately. Instead, it was refrigerated until she underwent another procedure 2 weeks later, where the flap was put back in place. Her family had hoped that this would be her first step towards recovery, but they hadn’t anticipated for it to go completely wrong.

A few days later, a CT scan detected water retention in her brain, and she was rushed to the operating room again, for another surgeryand just like that, this one complication set back even the smallest progress she had made. From then on, she underwent 4 more surgeries, including two craniotomies, a shunt insertion procedure and even a tracheostomy for respiratory support.” - Naveen

Her condition has remained mostly unchanged, but continued treatment can change her course of recovery

Pushpa has endured unimaginable pain and hardship since the fateful accident, yet her journey towards healing is far from over. She is showing very slow signs of improvement, but all of that progress could be for naught if her treatment, which includes both medical care and physiotherapy, is disrupted - which her family is trying to avoid at all costs. However, the mounting expenses of her treatment until now have drained their resources completely, and they fear that without the means to continue her care, they will lose her forever.

“Every day, I watch as my mother lies there, a shell of the vibrant and strong woman she once was. It breaks my heart to see her unable to move, breathe, or eat on her own. She's been bedridden for the past 16 months... But I refuse to let my mother's journey end here. I refuse to believe that her life should be defined by this tragic accident, something she had no control over.” - Naveen

After exhausting everything they had, this family is turning to you for your kind help

“I have fought tooth and nail to provide her with the best medical care possible, but now I find myself at a crossroads. I've exhausted every resource, emptied my pockets, and poured my soul into her recovery. Now, I stand at the edge of uncertainty. My biggest fear is losing my mother because I cannot afford to continue her treatment. It's a nightmare that keeps me awake at night, haunting my every thought. The thought of living our lives without my mother’s love, guidance, and warmth is unbearable. Her further treatment will cost another 10 lakh rupees that I simply don't have. Now I’m just praying for a miracle to save my mother’s life.” - Naveen
