I Want To Be A Doctor Who Helps Others In My Situation But The Cancer Stands In My Way

My name is Prajokta, and I turned 18 this June. This year was supposed to be about finishing my 12th board exams, celebrating with friends, and dreaming about college. But life had other plans. In January, my dreams came to a pause when I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Blood Cancer Was The Reason Of All My Problems

It all started when I began having recurring fevers that would disappear with medicine only to return a few days later. Then my hands and legs started shaking, and I began bleeding from odd places—my pinky toe, my nose, my gums. These issues seemed unrelated at first, and we weren’t overly concerned. But one day, as I was walking, I suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed. That was the day everything changed. At the hospital, I was informed that I was suffering from Cancer.

The Treatment is Painful Both Physically And Mentally.

My chemotherapy began almost immediately, along with multiple medications. It was not only extremely painful, but they also brought along a lot of side effects. I began losing weight rapidly, and my hair started falling out in clumps. I felt weak all the time. I used to spend so much time with my friends, going out and having fun. Now, I was confined to my home and the hospital, restricted by the fear of infections and food limitations.

We Don’t Have 11 Lakhs To Pay For My Treatment

The financial burden of my treatment is overwhelming. The doctors estimated the cost to be around 11 lakhs. My father is a plumber and the sole breadwinner of our family. He has already used all his savings for my treatment, and now we are in debt. But I am their only child and my parents refuse to give up on me. My mother stays by my side the whole time caring for me while hiding her own tears.

My Family And Friends Are My Source Of Strength

However, the worst part wasn’t the physical pain or the financial strain. I missed my 12th board exams in February. People around me, including many classmates, began to distance themselves. The moment they heard “blood cancer,” they assumed I had a death sentence and avoided me. But through it all, my best friends stood by me. They visited me, brought notes, and provided the emotional support I desperately needed. They, along with my family, gave me hope when I felt most hopeless.

I Have A Dream To Fulfill But I Need Help

Every day, I see people in the hospital losing hope, succumbing to depression. But I refuse to let go of my dreams. I have two significant challenges ahead of me: overcoming my illness and passing my 12th board exams in 2025. It won’t be easy, but I am strong, and I believe I can do it. Yet, I know I can’t do it alone. I need your support to have a chance at a normal life.

With your help, I can continue my fight, finish my education, and eventually help others who are going through what I am enduring now. Please, give me the chance to live, to be free, and to achieve my dreams.
