“I’ve never had any big dreams in life, ever. All I wanted to do was take care of my family and make them happy. Today, I am unable to do either. I am bedridden, with a huge leg that gets more and more infected with every passing day. To make matters worse, flies swarm all over it. It is like a death sentence - without money, I am not able to get it treated, which in turn pushes me closer to death.”- Padam Singh

Six years ago, Padam Singh, who worked as a lower-grade staff personnel in a hospital, met with an accident that would change his life forever. He sustained other injuries too, but his lower leg was badly damaged after being hit by the silencer of a car. He underwent a major surgery for it, but instead of healing and getting better, his leg began developing into a mass.

Today, the mass covers almost 90% of his left leg. It is infected and filled with pus. Doctors say that he needs immediate surgery and after-care that will cost around INR 14 lakhs, but Padam Singh and his family are in no position to afford it.

I wanted to take care of my family and make them happy. Today, I am unable to do either
Ever since they were told that he would require multiple surgeries and medicines to keep the leg from swelling up further, Padam and family have been trying to arrange the money. But all their efforts have been in vain so far. They are having to borrow money and food from neighbours and family members to sustain themselves.
“I feel like killing myself sometimes. I can’t get up, I can’t move around. I am in pain. I can only watch my wife and kids suffer because of the state that I am in. They have to take care of the cow, cut grass, fetch water from far away… in addition to taking care of me. I don’t want them to go through all this. I want to be healthy again.” - Padham Singh, tearfully
The infection could spread to other parts of my body and potentially even kill me if treatment is delayed
Doctors have told Padam Singh that the infection could spread to other parts of his body and potentially even kill him if treatment is delayed. But he has no way to arrange the money as he has been jobless for the past six years. The family is only able to get by every month - they get to eat only enough food to stay alive, and have no money for anything else.

“14 lakhs is a lot of money. Poor people like me cannot afford to make it even while we have jobs. I am unemployed and a burden on my family. I dream of standing on my feet again. Please help me and I will help other people like me in the future. That’s a promise.” - Padham Singh

It is only with your kind help that Padham can get back his old life and live for his family.
