11-month old Mirza Saleem was rushed to the hospital when he was struggling to breathe. His body swelled up and he hasn't passed urine in a week. Not even a year old, this baby's kidneys have failed, lungs are damaged and heartbeat keeps fluctuating every now and then.
"They gave up on him and asked us to take him to another hospital without much hope. The doctors told us they have tried everything possible but now only Allah can save him. Still my son is fighting with all his might and I pray he keeps doing it for his Ammi and Abbu. I wish no other parent has to ever see their little baby suffer so much right in front of their eyes."- Nahid Sultana, mother
Within a few hours, this perfectly healthy baby was nearing Multi-Organ failure
It started with a high grade fever and swelling of his body this year. Soon his mother, Nahid, noticed him exerting a lot of pressure while breathing as if he was in extreme distress. She consulted a local doctor and informed her husband, Mirza Ismail, who was working in Dubai at that point of time. Within a few hours, Mirza was asked to leave everything and come back immediately as the chances of his son making it were extremely slim."I had to lose my job to be able to come and see my son. Throughout my flight, I was praying it was just a bad dream and I would return to my healthy and happy baby. Just two days back I had seen him on video call and he was smiling and playing. My wife was at a loss of words over call and she just kept crying. I was shivering thinking about how my wife is handling everything alone. Till now I'm unable to grasp how my son had to be put on dialysis in just a day and all his other organs are at risk of failing too."- Mirza Ismail, father
Fighting for his life in PICU, this baby requires constant dialysis to restore his bodily functions
Mirza Salem has been battling Acute Kidney Injury Stage III, Sepsis and Electrolyte Imbalance for the past 3 weeks. He is currently in PICU receiving dialysis through a catheter along with IV fluids and antibiotics. It is very important for his blood pressure, heartbeat and infection to come under control so that his bodily functions are restored to normal. This is only possible if he is able to continue his dialysis and PICU care for a few weeks. The only option left to be able to see his ailing son was to lose his job
Without a job and no more assets left to sell, his parents are blaming themselves for being unable to afford 8 lakhs more to continue their son's treatment."After hearing that I'll need 8 lakhs to continue his treatment, I regret losing my job because now the medical bills are mounting but I'm jobless. We sold off our two-wheeler, gold and house to keep him in PICU for 3 weeks but now it's beyond our capacity and my son needs Dialysis daily. I have two more children at home to look after and with no roof over my head, I feel helpless for failing as a father."- Mirza Ismail, father
Nahid Sultana pleads everyone to pray for his son's recovery because all their hopes are now pinned on you. For 15 years, her husband was staying away from his family in Dubai so that he could earn enough to run their family of 5. With adequate treatment and continued care, their son will get another chance to live. This family just wants their son to return as a healthy boy to his Ammi and Abbu.
