‘He Wanted To Be A Lecturer, But A Gruesome Accident Has Snatched All His Dreams Away’

Janarthanam, a remarkable 23-year-old, had consistently been at the top of his class throughout his academic journey. With an unwavering commitment to his studies, he achieved the highest marks in both his 10th and 12th-grade exams. Hailing from a humble and economically disadvantaged background, Janarthanam's determination to transcend his circumstances through education was unwavering.

His aspirations centred around becoming a lecturer, a dream that he believed would help him provide a better life for his family. However, life took an unforeseeable turn when he met with a road accident, leaving his loved ones grappling with an agonising reality.

"Now, he's bedridden. He cannot move his arms or legs. He hasn't spoken in three months. We don't know whether he can listen to us or understand us. It breaks my heart to see my son in this position."- Kavitha, mother.

The accident has caused severe damage to his brain

Around three months ago, Janarthanam who was pursuing MSc in Physics, was returning home from his college when the unthinkable happened. His bike collided with a speeding bus, which toppled him and caused him to land on the hard ground face down. He was bleeding from every pore of his body when local people found him and got him admitted to a hospital nearby. On realising that he had grave injuries, he was referred to a better, bigger hospital in Coimbatore where he has been in ICU care until now.

“He darts his eyes across the room now. Earlier, he couldn't even do that. We watched as our once-active, charming son became a lifeless body. We thought we had lost him, but with great difficulty, doctors have kept him alive. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow because we cannot afford his treatment anymore.”- Boopathy, father.

He needs prolonged treatment, but they can’t afford it

Boopathy is currently the only breadwinner of his small family - consisting of his wife, daughter and Janarthanam. He is a farmer who doesn't earn very much; his son’s treatment expenses have worn him down further. He had to beg and borrow to keep Janarthanam’s care ongoing. But now, he has exhausted all his options and has no more options left.

“My son was so focused on studies and building a career that he would often not even venture out of his room. We would have to tell him to go hang out with his friends and relax… he was that disciplined in life. He did not deserve this. We do not deserve this. Please help us save our son before we lose him.”- Boopathy, tearfully.
