2-Year-Old Learnt To Walk Again After Chemo Started, She’ll Survive With Your Help

“In the first week of January, we noticed her falling randomly while walking, her hands would shiver while she tried holding on to things and her speech, she was stuttering and none of this ever happened to her before. We were very scared."
 - Joydeb, father

Worried, these parents took her to several doctors nearby thinking it to be a neurological disorder but no medication was helping her. Her health kept getting worse and they didn’t know what was happening to their little daughter.

She was diagnosed with aggressive cancer

Looking at Diya’s condition, the parents took Diya to Bangalore immediately. After a few initial tests Diya was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that develops from immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body. In Diya’s case, cancer formed a tumour near her spine compressing the spinal cord leading to extreme weakness, numbness and difficulty in walking.

“As soon as the reports came the doctor told us that she needs immediate surgery because she has a cancerous tumour and it needs to be removed. Cancer! When I heard that word, my mind was so occupied with the scary thoughts that I didn’t know what was happening around me anymore. My husband took her to prepare for the operation while I sat there on the chair cursing our fate.” - Neelima

Last week she walked again and that's the happiest moment we had in months

Surgery wasn’t the end of little Diya’s battle. She needed 6 chemo cycles out of which 3 cycles have been successfully completed. She is a lot better now but to beat her cancer, she needs prolonged chemotherapy followed by surgery, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

“When I heard about the entire treatment, I was just devastated thinking how would my 2 year old daughter bear all of this...but now, I see her walk again! She is going through so much pain but is fighting bravely. I know my daughter will fight it through. It is me who is failing now.” - Joydeb

They are not even halfway through the treatment and are penny less to continue

People in Joydeb’s village came forward and did their best to pool in as much as they can. Joydeb sold his father’s land and his wife’s jewellery to save Diya’s life but it is not enough. He is left with absolutely nothing now. He is a daily wage labourer, who works on other’s farm for a living.

What I earned for the day was only enough to put food on the table, nothing more. I have no means left now to continue her treatment and we are not even halfway through it. I don’t want to lose her just because we couldn’t afford the treatment but it is way beyond my capability. Please help me! Please save my daughter from dying!” - Joydeb
